Tigard, Oregon is proud to announce the dedication of its Civic Center on
! Saturday, May 17, 1986. The dedication of the Civic center Complex follows
I a week of celebrations centered around the 25th anniversary of the City of
Tigard's incorporation in 1961.
Tigard, a community of 22,000 is southwest of Portland and the brightest
spot in Washington County, leading the way in new construction and growth.
Named after John Tigard, who named the area around his General Store Post
Office Tigardville in 1886, the community also celebrates its centennial
year.
The festivities scheduled for the week of May 12 through 17 are:

A .4 mile run and parade walk-a-long from Tigard's old City Hall on
Main Street to the Civic Center.

The week's activities are a celebration of community unity. The $1.7
million Civic center is financed wholly through a general obligation
bond levy and donations of labor and furnishings of the Tigard Community.
For example, Tigard Rotary donated $10,000 for furnishing the Young Adult
section of the Library and the Tigard Friends of the Library have held
various rummage sales for Library furnishings.
