There are several projects that are underway and expected to be completed for the beginning of next school year: • The most visible and prominent changes underway are on the north side of campus facing Durham Road, where a new classroom wing is taking shape. Beginning next fall, several new classrooms will be completed and will house math, CE2, language arts, and health classes. Additionally, this area will be home to a new centralized Administration Office and public entrance, a new counseling office and career center, and new classrooms for our business program(s). • On the west side of the main building, expansion and modernization of the existing Career Technology Education (CTE) and Arts wing is underway. Although not as visible as the construction that is taking place along Durham Road, the new CTE/Arts wing will provide new teaching spaces for several programs, including computer graphics, video production, computer science, journalism, drawing, ceramics, and engineering. We are also finalizing a CTE Pathway Program titled "Community Design" that will occupy the makerspace being built in this area. • In athletics, new turf has been installed for our softball team on the south end of campus, and a new batting facility for the softball program will be in place by June. Lastly, our tennis courts have been relocated to the east side of campus, and the final coating/striping to complete the court surface is scheduled to be applied early this summer. As these projects have progressed, we are making every effort to minimize the impacts to students and staff, and we are thankful for everyone's flexibility and patience as we adapt and change our daily routines. Our General Contractor, Pence, is on pace to complete all of the aforementioned projects that are part of"phase one" by the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year. During "phase two", we'll see a new set of projects begin that are scheduled to be completed by the beginning of the 2020 school year. These projects include: • Expansion of the Commons/Cafeteria to provide much-needed additional student seating capacity, along with a new kitchen and servery area. • A new auxiliary (aux) gym to replace the current aux gym that stands alone on the west side of campus. Once completed, it will house a new basketball court, locker rooms, a new weight room, wrestling and aerobics rooms, and a health classroom. Summer Construction Announcement: Construction phasing conversations have occurred to determine how work will be timed to achieve minimal disruption to class offerings, students and staff. To achieve this. considerable portions of the Tigard Hiah School campus will be closed/no access this summer, including access to the main and auxiliary gyms. Allain office staff will operate out of the Tigard HS Library. Five staff members worked overnight to make the repair. About 12 customers were without water while staff worked to locate and repair the pipe. Staff were able to locate and repair the first break, a second break in the same pipe, and then at the third break determined the best course of action would be replacement of the pipe section. This type of repair takes more time and effort and is typically not performed at night unless under emergency conditions. In total, staff worked from 8 p.m. to 7:30 a.m. on the repair. This action recognizes, "the immense value clean and safe drinking water adds to our lives," and r 6A) 40rOx t thanks staff their efforts to deliver this resource to Tigard Tigard Water Independence Day customers. June s June 9 will mark three years since Tigard switched over to its new water source that provides safe, clean, dependable drinking water to more than 60,000 residential and business customers in the Tigard Water Service Area. The $254 million project upgraded and increased system capacity to deliver high-quality drinking water from the Clackamas River to the communities of Lake Oswego and Tigard. The change marks the first time in the city's history that Tigard owns and controls its own high-quality water supply,no longer purchasing water from the City of Portland. The new system enhances emergency water supply reliability regionally by providing access to Lake Oswego's and Tigard's combined storage as well as other supply sources. The new water system can supply Tigard water customers with up to 18 million gallons of water per day. That is enough water to meet the community's water needs for decades to come. Meet our Staff Sam Morrison How long have you worked for the City of Tigard? I started my career in water works in 1978 with the Tigard Water District before it merged with the City of Tigard, so in total... 40 going on 41 years! What do you enjoy most about your job? In my early years, I enjoyed the construction work. I could go home at night and say, "I did that." Now I really enjoy helping our customers with water i issues. Nothing like a big`thank you' for your help. What is something unique about working in water? You would think that after 40 years of service working in water that I would know it all. Totally not the case. Our water system is in a constant state of change and you must learn and adapt. I am always learning. What is one thing you wish people knew about your job? I encourage customers to always call the city first with any water related issues. We might not be able to help, but a first look from us is free and we can help troubleshoot. He died peacefully at 10:00am this morning with his favorite Kong toy still in his mouth, surrounded by loved ones. Baxter served Tigard Police faithfully for eight years and transitioned to a beloved pet with his handler Sergeant Odam and his family. Baxter served with distinction. He worked with Officer Jackson from 2007-2010, and then with Sgt. Odam from 2010 until retiring in July of 2016. During his tenure, he was directly responsible for over 100 captures and he assisted with locating over 100 more. He also tracked for several missing persons, as well as located numerous articles of evidence. Baxter was a "very active partner - on his feet all the time." For his ten-hour shift, "he was always on." When Sgt. Odam responded to a call on the radio and spoke into the microphone, Baxter would start to "bellow," announcing to all of the officers on duty that he was ready for work. "That's how much of a drive he had." When he retired, Baxter readily transitioned to life as a "normal house dog" at the Odam residence. He may never have been a cuddler or let people pet his tummy, but he loved playing with the kids and was fully involved in whatever they were doing. Throughout his twelve years with us, he touched many people and lived a meaningful life as a working dog and family pet. We will always consider him part of our family and grieve his passing. On Monday morning, Tigard lost one of its former K-9s, one who had served with distinction at the Tigard Police Department for almost a decade. Baxter died peacefully at 10 a.m., surrounded by love ones along with his favorite Kong toy still in his mouth, Tigard police reported. During his career, Baxter, the German shephard who was bred in Slovakia, was directly responsible for more than 100 captures and assisted in locating more than 100 more. In addition, he tracked several missing persons throughout his tenure and located numerous articles of evidence as well. Baxter was described as a "very active partner--on his feet all the time"and "he was always on,"during his 10-hour shifts, according to his handlers. Over the years, his partners included both Officer Brian Jackson (2007-2010), and later, Sgt. Cameron Odam (2010 until the K-9's retirement in July 2016). What made Baxter so special is that in 2008, he became Tigard's first K-9 Unit after a decade without one. During a ride along with the pair in 2014, a The Times reporter followed the pair. "He's a remarkable dog," Odam said at the time, adding that he had wanted to become a K-9 handler since he was in elementary school. "He is really good at what he does, and we are really glad to have him." At the time, the pair were the only officer/K9 team at the Tigard Police Department. Today, the department has two K9 teams: Officer Powers is paired with K-9 Diesel, who is certified for both tracking and narcotics detection, and Officer Rivera is paired with K-9 Rico, who is certified for tracking. "Baxter could just stand there, and that can de-escalate a situation just like that." On Tuesday, Tigard police reported that, "When Sgt.
