1) Doors must be fitted with a type of locking or latching device which
will permit the opening of the door from the inside without the use of
key, special knowledge or effort, except that exterior exit doors may h
fitted with a keyed locking device which is readily distinguishable as
locked and there is a readily visible, durable sign on or adjacent to
the door stating this door to remain unlocked during business hours.
2) Firestopping consisting of 2-inch (nominal) lumber, gypsum plasterboard
or equivalent material is required to cut off all concealed draft
op::nings (noth vertical and horizontal) and shall form an effective
barrier between stories and between a top story and roof space. It
shall be used in specific locations as follows:
a) In all wood-framed walls and partitions at floor and ceiling lines.
c) At maximum horizontal intervals of 10 feet in t►. , case of double
stun' walls, partitions and furred spaces.
d) Penetrations made in this prescribed firestopping to accommodate
wiring, plumbing, duct work and similar utility runs must be packed, in
a manner, which will effectively maintain the integrity of the
firestopping and cut off all concealed draft openings which could fford
a passage for flame. Reference Section 2516, S.B.C.
3) Plans for the installation or alteration of the automatic sprinkler
•
system must be provided to and approved by Washington County Fire
District #1 prior to such installation or. alteration.

The plans for the alteration of the Washington Square Mall to ac-
comodate this new tenant have been examined with respect to fire
safety regulations . Listed as follows are requirements which
must be observed during the construction process and for which we
found no provision in the submitted documents .
1 . All doors shown on the drawings must be openable from the
inside for immediate exit at all times withou` the use of a
key , special knowledge or effort .
2 . Full automata .. sprinkler coverage is required . Ceiling-
mounted automatic sprinkler heads must not be located
closer than one foot nor more than 7 1/2 feet from any
wall , partition or similar bulkhead .
i . One set of approved plans must be maintained on the project
site throughout all phases of construction and must he made
available to building and fire inspectors for reference
during required construction inspections .
4 . Inspection and approval of construction by a representative
of the office is required : (a ) prior to the cover of any
new framing elements following the installation of all util -

cavities ; (b) upon completion of construction and prior to
