Box 25690 Seattle, Washington 98125 Dear Mr. Nelson: Re: Leeds Shoe Store Washington Square This letter will confirm our conversation of January 12, 381 , affirming that we have denied approval of the plans for the proposer construction of office spaces and adjuvant fncilities within the existing stock room of this occupancy. That is, under the terms of the currently applicable fire safety regulations, no more than one intervening room is permitted between a room and a qualified exit such as an exit to the exterior of the building or to a fire protected (fire isolated) exit corridor system. As discussed, the layout shown on the plans submitted for review and approval show too many intervening rooms between the office spaces and the exit facilities. Further, we have already exercised a more than prudent degree of tolerance in permitting the development of this occupancy as it now exists anyway. We have permitted the required second means of exit from the sales area to pass through the stock room which is contrary to accepted fire safety practices. We cannot, in good conscience, allow any additional construction in the stock room area which will further complicate the present means of exit. We trust you can appreciate the position which we must assume w' th respect ,.„ to this issue. We recommend that the plans he altered to provide for a fire protected exit passageway leading directly from the sales area through the stock room and to the exterior exit door.
