Dear Mr. Abell :
Re: Professional Shoe Rebuilders (PC 3647)
Sunset Mall
The plans for tenant improvements of this space have been examined by
this office with reference to applicable fire safety regulations. As a
result we offe,- the following comments.
1 . Exit doors must be openable from the inside without the
use of a key, special knowledge or effort. A key-operated
deadholt may be used on exit doors on a Group B Occupancy
provided it is of the indicating type and is readily
distinguishable as locked. In conjunction with this
device must be a sign on or adjacent to the door stating
"HIS DOOR MUST REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS JOURS."
(ref: Sec. 3304 U.B.C. )
2. There must be a floor or landing on each side of doors.
The floor or landing must not be more than 1/2- inch
ic,rer than the threshold of the doorway. When doors
open over landings, the landing m have a length of
not less than 5 feet.
(ref: Sec. 3304 U.B.C.)
3. Exit signs must be installed at required exit doorways
and /.here otherwise necessary to clearly indicate the
direction of egress. Exit signs must be internally or
externally illuminated by two (2) electric lamps or
must be of the approved self-luminous type. If the
luminance on the face of the exit sign is from an
external source, it must have an intensity of not less
• than 5.0 footcandles from either lamp. Internally
illur-inated signs must provide equivalent luminance.
(ref: Sec. 3314 U.R.C.)

4. Firestopping consisting of 2-inch (nominal ) lumber,
gypsum plasterboard or the equivalent must be installed
in concealed spaces of stud walls and partitions, in-
cluding furred spaces, at ceiling and floor levels and
at 10-foot intervals along the length of the wall .
Also, firestopping must be installed at all interconnections
between concealed vertical and horizontal spaces such as
occur at soffits, drop ceilings and coved ceilings.
Openings around vents, pipes, ducts and similar utility
runs which afford a passage for fire must be packed with
noncombustible materials.
(ref: Sec. 2516 U.B.C.'
5. All insulation materials including facings, such as vapor
barriers or breather papers installed within walls or
attic spaces must have a flame-spread rating not to
exceed 25 and a smoke density not to exceed 450 when
tested in accordance with U.B.C. Standard No. 42-1
(Steiner Tunnel Test).
(ref: Sec. 1731 U.B.C. )
6. Approved plans bearing the stamps of the Washington
County Building Department and this office must be
maintained on the jcb site and he made available to
building and fire irspectors upon request.
(ref: Sec. 303 U.B.C.)
7. Please cull for inspections prior to covering any interior
frar, ing elements and ayain prior to the occupancy of this
space.
(ref: Sec. 305 U.B.C.)
8. Before occupying the space, a Certificate of Occupancy
must be issued by the Washington County Building Department.
(ref: Sec. 307 U.B.C.)

Dear Mr, Tolentino:
Re: The Shc Shop (PC 3653)
Washinctr'i Square
As discussed in our telephone conversation of February 8 the plans for
this 1,roject have been examined with respect to current fire safety
regulations. listed as follows are those requirements and conditions
to which you and I have agreed which must be observed during the course
of construction and tor which we found no provsions on the submitted
drawings.
1 . The shoe storage shelves in the stock room must be
arranged to run parallel with the s1dewalls to provide
a direct and unobstructeo aisle from the rear rigor of
the sales area to the rear exterior door. Thi:: aisle
must be not less thac 44 inchein clear width.
2. The rear exit door from the ales area in the rear
exterior exit door must be well indicated by ^xit
signs having letter, not less than 6 incnes in height
with the principle strokes beim, not i.2ss than .;i4-inch
wide.
3. In wood framed walls and partitions and similar voids
enclosed wholly or partly with wood, firestopping must
be provided at all ceiling lines. Penetrations .rude
in this- prescribed firestopping to accommodate wiring,
plumbing, duct work or similar utility runs, must be
packed in a manner which will effectively maintain the
integrity of the firestopping and cut off all concealed
draft openings which could afford a passage for flame.

enclosed wholly or in part by combustible materials must
be provided with automatic sprinkler protection. It is
recommended that shop drawings of the alterations to the
sprinkler system be submitted to and approved by this office
prior to the initiation of any work on the system.
5. Inspection and approval of construction by a representative
of this office is req6red:
