Purpose
This report describes the geologic and soils conditions of a
proposed beilding site on the property referenced above.
Site Description
The lot fronts on S.W. Washington Street between 95th and 97th
Avenues. The property has 95' frontage and is 99' in depth.
The front 30' to 40' is level and then slopes steeply (80%) to
a tributary of Cedar Mill Creek at the rear of the property.
Surface drainage is good.

Ge•alogy
•
The volcanic bedrock is exposed in the bed of the stream. The
native soil cover is relatively thin and is composed of rilt to
sandy silt (ML Unified Classification) .
A non-engineered fill of ta`' i«ble thickness overlies the native
soil .
Recommendations
The site is suitable for a single family dwelling as planned.
-'J The fill on the site is not suitable for a foundation: there-
fore, after regrading the property, the foundation should
be placed upon piers drilled to native soil or be placed
upon piling.

from accumulating in the stream channel.
4. On site material is not suitable for backfill adjacent tot///r
foundation or retaining walls waere drains are required.
Select granular material shoulc: be used for foundation
drains.
5. During construction, temporary vertical cuts will stand
without support to heights of 10' . Finished slopes will
stand at 2 horizontal to 1 vertical when revegetated.

The plans for the alteration of the automatic sprinkler system within this
tenant space to acconanodate the construction of the "mezzanine" have been
examined with reference to the currently applicable standards of this juris-
diction. Insofar as the layout of the piping and spacing of the heads in
the first story area is concerned the proposal shown on the drawings is
acceptable. On the other hand, the construction of the new wall which will
surround the se.:ond story space will adversely inter ere with the pattern
of the sprinklers in the roof space.
That is, with the construction of the demising wall , the automatic sprinkler
heads in the second story space will be located approximately 10rfeet frfrom
the wall . Additional heads may be added to the branch lines app Y
1 foot from the new wall to all,_viate this deficiency. That is, the heads
beyond the new demising wall will be in a separate "fire -ea."
Subject to the foregoing stipulation, the plans for this project are hereby
approved. We have retained one copy of the submitted drawings for our records.

The plans for the second story storage room proposed fur this occupancy have
been examined with reference to currently applicable fire safety regulations
and as a result we ire listing as follows those requirements which must be
observed during the course of construction.
1 . The automatic sprinkler protection must be extended to all
areas within the tenant space including those spaces below
the second story ceiling, that spa%e above the second
story ceiling (attic) and the enti.-e _ales space. That is,
one of the covenants under which the entire shopping complex
was constructed was and is to maintain complete automatic
sprinkler coverage . The sprinkler ,ystem must be main-
tained in operation throughout all constructio' rk and
plans for any alterations to the sprinkler system must be
submitted to and approved by this office prior to the
initiation of any sprinkler pipefitting work, sprinkler
head iostallations, etc.
2. One set of approved plans bearing the stamps of the Washington
County Building Department and this office must be maintained
on the project site throughout all phases of construction and
must be made available to building and fire inspectors for
reference during required construction inspections.

3. Inspection and approval of construction by this office is
required:
a) prior to the cover of any framing elements (i .e. wall
studs, ceiling joists, etc. ).
b) upon completion of constrJction and prior to the

4. Upon of construction a Certificate of Occupancy
or o`he- written instrument of acceptance must be obtained
from the Washington County Building Department.
