The plans fo' the remodeling of this tenant space to accommodate the proposed
new occupant has been examined with reference to currently applicable fire
safety regulations. Listed as follows are requirements which must be observed
during the course of const. uction and prier to occupancy of the space in order
to fulfill these regulations.
1 . The maximum permissible area which any sprinkler head may
cover is 130 square feet. Accordingly, the comment on the
drawings that sprinkler heads will be spaced on a grid of
15 x 15 is not acceptable. That is, sprinkler heads may
bE spaced at 15 feet between heads or 15 feet between branch
lines but no sprinkler head may cover more than 130 square
feet. Thus, if sprinkler heads are spaced at 15-foot
intervals on branch lines, the brunch lines must he not
more than 9 feet apart.

2. All blind spaces enclosed in whole or in part by combustible
construction must be provided with automatic sprinkler cover-
age, exclusive of the underfloor area which will be filled
with noncombustible insulation according to the drawings.

3. The interior finish, i .e. wall and ceiling surfaces, must
have a flame-sprc d rating of net to exceed 200 as measured
on the Steiner lunnel Test Scale referred to as U.B.C.
Standard No. 42-1 .

4. Exclusive of the main entrance fronting on the mall , all
doors which serve this tenant space must be operable from
the inside at all times for immediate exit without the use
of a key, special knowledge or effort.

5. A passageway which will physically separate the employees
and storage room from the way of exit leading from the
sales area to the roar exit must be provided. That is, the
way of exit is not permitted to pass through a storage room.
6. One set of approved plans bearing the stamps of the Washington

clearly visible with 6 inch high block letters and a stroke not
less than 3/4 in wide. Section 3314 ). lumber,

4 The plans which you prepared for the remodeling of this tenant space
at Washington Square Mall have been examined with reference to currently
applicable fire safety regulations. Listed as follows are requirements
# which must be observed during the course of construction and for which
# we found no specific provisions in the submitted drawings.
1 . In all wood framed walls and partitions and in furred
1 spaces formed by wood furring strips, firestopping is
required at ceiling lines. This firestopping may
consist of 2-inch nominal lumber, gypsum plasterboard
or equivalent fire-resistive material . Penetrations
made in the firestopping to accommodate wiring, plumb-
ing, duct work and similar utility runs must be packed,
following the installation of said utility runs, in a
manner which will effectively maintain the integrity
of the firestopping and cut off all concealed draft
openings which could afford a passage for flame.
2. The automatic sprinkler protection which is provided
must be extended end altered to provide full coverage
for the spaces under discussion. Ceiling-mounted
automatic sprinkler heads must not be located closer
than 1 foot nor more than 7-1/2 feet from walls,
partitions and similar bulkheads which would interfere
with the spray pattern of the automatic sprinkler
