The plans for the construction of a new "store front" for this
occupancy have been examined with regards to fire safety re-
quirements . We hasten to advise you that full sprinkler coier-
age is required and must be maintained. That is , any over-
head obstruction which would interfere with the spray pattern
from reaching the f' oor must be provided with sprinkler heads
beneath.
The plans otherwise look satisfactory insofar as fire safety
regulations apply znd are hereby approved , subject to the fore-
' going stipulation . I hope this letter will assist in clearing
the way for the project' s further development. Please let me

Building Permit File 4 ;71?

From Bill Schlecht, Building Offici, l
Subject INVALIDATION OF BUILDING fERMIT4/
1
The Oregon State Structural Specialty Code, Section 305(A) requires, "All
construction or work for which a permit is required shall be subject to
inspection by the Building Official." The responsibility to call for
inspections rests with the applicant. Section 305(B), "It shall be the duty
of the person doing the work authorized by a permit to notify the Building
Official that such work is ready for inspection It shall be the duty of
the person requesting any inspections required by this Code to provide access
to and means for proper inspection of such work."
The Structural Specialty Code, Section 303(D), deals with the expiration of
building permits: "Every building permit issued by the Building Official
under the provisions of this Code shall expire by limitation and become null
R and void if the building or work authorized by such permit is not commenced
within 180 days from the date of such permit, or if the building or work
authorized by such permit is suspended or abandoned at any time after the work
has commenced for a period of 180 days."
The above-referenced permit has not had an inspection request for in excess of
twelve months and is presumed to be inactive and the permit void.

1s a result of our telephone conversation with :.r. Huebner on April 25, 1973
we have reconsidered our position with respect to the requirement[ issued in
our plane examination report #92. e must agree that some of our requirements
are, from a practical standpoint, over restrictive.

opening will be maintained in a fully open position at all times when the fa—

Gentlemen:
Re: Burgers, Etc. - Washinoton Square Shopping Center
The plans for the remodeling of this occupancy were referred to me and I
examined on June 12, 1990. A:, a result, I see no particular conflicts
witn fire code requirements insofar as the layout of the floor plan is
concerned.
I
it
However, the new decorative ceiling could, and no doubt will to some degree,
obstruct the spray patterns of the automatic sprinkler system. And, in any
case, the suspension of the slatted ::oiling below the sprinkler heads will r
require that additional heads be provided. That is, automatic sprinkler
ptotec:tion above and below this wood ceiling is required.
Regarding the decorative beams, the deflec :ors of the sprinklers must be
located at a sufficient distance from the earns to avoid obstruction of
the discharge pattern. The deflectors of : wrinkler heads located less
FI than 1 foot from a beam must riot be located above the bottom of the beam.
Sprinklers located between 1 and 2 feet fron a beam may have deflectors 1
located 1 inch above the bottom of the beam. Sprinklers more than 2 feet I
but less than 2 feet 6 inches from a beam may have the deflectors located r
2 inches above the bottom of Vie beam and so on. Since this remodeling
project may adversely effect the sprinkler protection of this space, it is
required that sprinkler alteration plans be submitted to and approved by
this office prior to the initiation of the remodeling work. I
