Confirming our telephone conversation of January 24, the plans for the
alteration project of that space formerly occupied by Rug Crafters have
been examined with reference to fire safety renulations. As mentioned
in our discussion, the secondary means of exit from the sties area must
not pass throuch the storage room.
That is, the path of exit must be physically separated from the storage
space by a wall or similar bulkhead to the effect tnat the means of
egress is well defined The width of the cotridor must be not less
than 44 inchr,..
The automatic sprinkler protection installed within this space rust be
adjusted to accommodate this new arrangement. Automatic sprinkler heads
located in the ceiling system must not be placed closer than 1 foot nor
more than 7-1/2 feet from any wall , partition or similar bulkhead. Full
sprinkler coverage is required end it is recommended that before any
alteration to the system is made, complete plans therefore be submitted
to and approved by a representative of this office.
In all wood framed walls and partitions firestopping consisting of
2-inch nominal lumber must be provided at ceiling lines. This includes
the concealed space developed by the installation of furring strips.
Penetrations made in this prescribed firestupping to accommodate wiring,
plumbing, etc. , must be packed, following the installation of each
utility rli, in a manner which will effectively maintain the integrity
of the firestopping and cut off all concealed ci,aft openings which could
afford a vssage for flame.

Building Depart-ent and this office must be maintained on the project
site throughout all phases of construction and must be made available
to building and fire inspectors for reterence during required construc-
tion inspections.
lnspect:on and approval of construction by a representative of this
office is required: (1) prior to the cover of any new framing elements
and (2) pri.ir to opening the occupancy for business.
Also, prior to opening the occupancy for business, a Certificate of
Occupancy or other written instrument of approval must be obtained from
the Washington County Building Department.
Subi?ct to the foregoing stipulations the plans are hereby approved. I

approved mems of providing a second exit from the sales area must
he provided. Reference Section 3303, S.B.C.
2) Doors must be fitted with a type of locking or latching device
which will permit the opening of the door from the inside without
the use of a key, special knowledge or effort, except that exterior
exit doors may be fitted with a keyed locking deice which is
readily distinguishable as locked and there is a readily visible,
durable sign on or adjacent to the door stating this door to remain
unlocked during business hours. Peference Section 3304. S.R.C.
3) Glass used in doors or in glazing located within 12 inches of the
nearest vertical edge of a door or in areas subject to human
impact, shall be tempered or of an approved safety glazing
material . Reference Section 5406, S.B.C.
4) In lieu of submitting an engineers design, suspended ceilings an-,
fixtures shall be supported as specified in U.B.C. Standard 47-18
and shall be lattrall_v braced as shown on the attached cross
section. Additional information of standard requirements is
available if needed upon request.
5) Plans for the installation or rlteration of the automatic sprinkler
system must be provided to and approved by Washington County Fire
District F1 prior to such installation or alteration.
