The plans for the alteration of the automatic sprinkler protection in this
building to accommodate the remodeling within this tenant space have been
examined in conjunction with an on-site inspection of the project area.
Unfortunately, the installation was completed prior to our receiving the
drawings and as a result it was necessary to prescribe that certain altera-
tions be made.
On March 6, a reinspection of this tenant space was made and we noted that
the necessary adjustments have been made. Accordingly, the automatic sprinkler
..ystem is approved as installed and the drawings under discussion are approved
subject to the foregoing conditions and stipulations.
For your future reference, exclusive of sidewall heads approved for installa-
tion in the 4" and 6" range with respect to the juncture of ceilings and walls,
both upright and pendent style heads should be located not closer than one foot
from a wall ; the problem being that as the thermal currents rise and approach
the ce.ling they tend to bend And thus cause a swirl which entraps cool air
in the intersection of the ceiling and the wall . As a result the respcnse of
the heads to heat is extens'vely delayed ar,d, in fact, may preclude the fusing
of the heat sensetive elements altogether.
