Penney tires, batteries and accessories store to accommodate a lease space
for the Sherwin Williams Paint retail outlet have been e(amined with refer-
ence to applicable fire safety regulations. Listed AS follows are those
requirements which trust be observed to accommodate these regulations.
In the first instance, full automatic sprinkler ccverage is requ red.. The
automatic sprinkler system must therefore be altered to ecccmmodate new walls
and partitions. Ceiling sprinklers must be losat.ed not more than 7 feet nor

• The plans for this project were received by this office on 11-17-83 and examined for the
non-structural, fire and life safety portiun of the plans review on 11-22-83 . listed
on the back of this sheet, are the items we find to be ir violation oforlor whiE we find
no provisions for the requirements of the 1982 Edition of the State Uniform Building Code.

1 ) Two exits are required from the sales area of the proposed Sherwin Williams Paint
Store portion of the building. The exits must be placed a distance apart equal
to not less than one-half of the length of the maximum overall diagional
dimension of the area served. My calculations indicate a distance apart of not
less than 45 feet in this instance. Reference Section 3303 & Table 33-A, S.B.C.
2) All doors and gates used for egress purposes from rooms or areas must be fitted
with a type latching or locking device which will permit the opening of the
door from the inside without the use of a key, special knowledge or effort.
Exterior exit doors may be fitted with an indicating type keyed deadbolt, provided
a readily visible, durable sign is placed on or adjacent to the door stating -
THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS HOURS. The sign shall be in letters
not less than 1 inch high on a c^ntrasting background. The locking device must
be a type that will be readily distinguishable as locked. Reference Section 3304,
S.G.C.
3) Firestopping consisting cf 2-inch (nominal ) lumber, gypsum plasterboard or
equivalent materail is required to cut off all concealed draft openings (both
vertical and horizontal ) and shall form an effective barrier between stories
and between a top story and roof space. It shall be used in specific locations
as follows:
- In all wood-framed wills and partitions at floor and ceiling lines.
- At maximum horizontal intervals of 10 feet in the case of double stud walls,
partitions and furred spaces.
- Penetrations made it this prescribed firestopping to accommodate wiring,
plumbing, duct work and similar utility runs must be packed, following the
installation of said utility runs, in a manner which will effectively main-
tain the integrity of the firestopping and cut off all concealed draft open-
ings which could afford a passage for flame. Reference Section 2516, S.B.C.
4) Plans for any alteration of the automatic sprinkler system must be submitted to,
and approved by Washington County Fire District k 1 prior to such alteration.

The Oregon State Structural Specialty Code, Section 305(A) requires, "All • �
construction or work for which a permit is required shall be subject to
inspection by the Building Official." The responsibility to call for
j inspections rests with the applicant. Secti .- 305(B), "It shall be t"- dity

The Structural Specialty Code, Section 3C3O), deals with the e ;iration of
building permits: "Every building permit issued by the Building Official

and void if the building or work authorized by such permit is not commenced
1 within 130 days from the date of such permit, or if the building or work
authorized by such permit is suspended or ab:h.idoned at any time after the work
