The plans for the alteration of this huildhng which formerly housed J. C.
Penney tires, batteries and accessories store to accommodate a lease space
for the Sherwin Williams Paint retail outlet have been examined with r . fer-
ence to applicably fire safety regulations. Listed as Follows are those
requirements which rest be observed to accommodate these regulations.
In the first instance, full automatic sprinkler coverage is required. The
automatic sprinkler system must therefore be altered to accommodate new walls
and partitions. Ceiling sprinklers must be braced not more than 7 feet nor
closer than 1 foot from any wall or partition. Sidewali sprinklers may be
located not more than 6 nor less than 4 inches from walls and ;Things.
Inspection and approval of construction by a representative of tl.is office
is required prior to the cover of any new framing elements and ay:On upon
completion of construction in the company of a representative of yo. r firm.
One set of approved plans bearing the stamps of the Washington County Build-
ing Department and this office must be maintained at the project sita and
mutt be made availatle to buildir and 'ire inspectors for reference during
these required construction inspection
Also upon completion of construction a Certificate of Occupancy or other
written instrument of acceptance must be obtained from the Washington County
Building Department..

• The plan-, for this project were received by this office on 11 -1/-83 and examined for the
non-structural, fire and life safety portion of the pians revoew on --) 1-22-83 . Listed
on the back of this sheet are the items we find to be in violation of, or for which we find
no provisions for the requirements of the 1982 Edition of the State Uniform Building Code.

1) Two exits are required from the sales area of the proposed Sherwin Williams Paint
Store portion of the building. The exits must be placed a distance apart equal
to not less than cne-half of the length cf the maximum overall diagional
dimension of the area served. My calculations indicate a distance apart of not
less than 45 feet in this instance. Reference Section 3303 & Table 33-A, S.B.C.
2) All doors and gates used for egress purposes from rooms or areas must be fitted
with a type latching or locking device which will permit the opening of the
door from the inside without tre use of a key, special knowledge or effort.
Exterior exit doors may be fitted with an indicating type keyed deadbolt, provided
a readil, visible, durable sign is placed on or adjacent to the door stating -
THIS DOOR TO KLMAIN !!MOCKED DURING BUSINESS HOURS. The sign shall be in letter,
not less than 1 inch high on a contrasting background. The locking device must
be a type that will be readily distinguishable as locked. Reference Section 3304,
S.E.C.
3) Firestopping consisting of 2-inch (nominal ) lumber, gypsum plasterboard or
equivalent materail is required to cut off all concealed draft openings (both
vertical and horizontal ) and shall form an effective barrier between storie:
and between a top story and roof space. It shall be used in specific locations
as fellows:
- In all wood-framed walls and partitions at floor and ceiling lines.
- At maximum horizontal intervals of 10 feet in the case of double stud walls,
parLir.ions and f:trred spaces.
- Penetrations made in this prescribed firestopping to accommodate wiring,
plumbing, duct work and similar utility runs must be packed, following the
installation of said utility runs, in a manner which will effectively rcain-
tain the integrity of the firestopping and cut off all concealed draft open-
ings which could afford a passage for flame Reference Section 2516, S.B.C.
4) Plans for any alteration of the automatic sprinkler system must be submitted to,
and approved by Washington County Fire District " 1 prior to such alteration.
