1) The door opening to the corridor system must be protected by a
self-closing and latch smoke and draft control door assembly having
r.ot less than a 20 minute fire-resistive rating. The assembly must
be gasketed along both sides and across the top, so as to proOde a
seal where the door meets the stop. Reference Section 3305, S.B.C.
2) Doors must be fitted with a type of locking or ..accirn device
which will permit the opening of the door fro,. the inside without
the use of a key, special knowledge or effort, except that exterior
exit doors may be fitted with a keyed locking device which is
readily distinguishable as locked and there is a readily visible,
durable sign on or adjacent to the door stating this door to remain
unlocked during business hours.
3) Glass used in doors or in glazing located within 12 inches of tha
nearest vertical edge of a door or in areas subject to human
impact, shall be tempered or pf an approve' safety glazing
material . Reference Section 5406, S.B.C.
4) Toilet rooms shall be provided with a mechanically operated exhaust
system capable of providing a complete change of air every 15
minutes. Su:h systems shall be vented to the outside air and at
the point of discharge shall be at lest 5 feet from any openable
window. Reference Section 705, S.B.C.
5) In lieu of submitting an engineers design, suspended ceilings and
fixtures shall be supported as specified in U.B.C. Standard 47-18
and shall be laterally braced as shown on the attached cross
section. Additional information 01 standard requirements is
available if needed upon request.
6) Plans fur the installation or alteration of the automatic sprinkler
system must be provided to and approved by Washington County Fire
District $1 prior to such installation or alteration, also
sprinkler heads are required below the raised platform at office
area.
7) Handrails shall be placed not less than 30 inches nor more than 34
inches above the nosing of tread;. They shall be continuous the
full length of the stairs. At least one handrail shall extend no
less than 6 inches beyond the top and bottom risers aid ends shall
be returned or shall terminate in newel posts or safety terminals.
Handrails projecting from a wall shall have a space of not less
than 1-1/2 inches between the wall and the handrail. The handgrip
portion of handrails shall not be less than 1-1/4 inches nor more
than 2 inches in cross-sectional dimension and shall have a smooth
surface with no sharp corners. Reference Section 3306, S.B.C.

8) Where there is .'.closed usable space under stairs, the walls and
soffits of the enclosed space shall be protected on the enclosed
slue as required for one-hour fire-resistive construction.

9) The rise of every step in a stairway shall be nit less than 4
inches nor greater than 7-1/2 1^rhes The run 5rall be ro less
than 10 inches as measure horizontal 'y betveen the vertical planes
of the furthermost projection of adjacent t-+-ads. The largest
tread run within any flight of stairs shall not exceed the smallest
by more than 3/8 inch. The greatest riser height within any flight
of stairs shall not exceed the smallest by more than 3/8 inch.

10) A plumbing permit will be required prior to the installation or any
alteration of the sanitation or potable water systems, Plumbing
permits are now available at the Building Division counter.
11) Subject to the above listed items the plans for this project are
approved for construction, insofar as the Land Development
Services Division requirements apply.

The plans for the development of this tenant space have been examined
with reference to currently applicable fire safety regulations and as
a result we are listing as follows those requirements which must be
observed during the course of development and for which we found no
provisions or for which the provisions were not clear to as in the sub-
mitted drawings.
,
1 . Firestopping is required in all wood framed walls and
partitions:
a) at floor and ceiling lines.
b) along and in line with the run of the stairway in
adjacent wood stud walls.
c) at maximum horizontal intervals of 10 feet in double
stud walls and partitions. ,
Penetrations made in this prescribed firestopping to
accommodate wiring, plumbing, duct work and similar
utility runs must be packed, following the installation
of said utility runs, in a manner which will effectively
maintain the integrity of the firestopping arJ cut off
all concealed draft opening, which could afford a passage
for flame.
2. The main entrance/!xit door assembly consists of a pair
of doors according to the drawings. When the "active"
leaf is unlocked the "inactive" leaf must be free to
swing. That is, the .ise of edge bolts, flush bolts and
any similar restraining device on either leaf Is ,Irohibi _ed.

Generally speaking, all doors must be openable from the
inside at all times for immediate exit without the use of
a key, special knowledge or effort. The exception! to this
rule covers mercantile occupancies where keyed deadlocks
may be employed if they are of the indicating type (that is,
being readily distinguishable as being locked when in the
locked position) and there is posted on or over the door
in each case where this option is employed, a sign vhich
reads, "THIS DOOR MUST REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS
HOURS" in letters not less than 1 inch in height on a con-
trasting background.
3. Full sprinkler coverage is required. Prior to the altera-
tion of the existing automatic sprinkler system to accommodate
this tenant space, complete plans therefore must be submitted
to and approved by a representative of thi, office.
4. One set of approved plans bearing the stamps of the Washington
County Building Department and this office must be maintained
on the job site throughout all phases of construction and must
he made available to building and fire inspectors for refer-
ence during required construction inspections.
5. Inspection and approval of construction by a representative
of this office is required:
al prior to the cover of any interior framing elements
following the installation of all utility runs and
tirestopping mentioned in requirement no. 1 .
b) upon completion of construction and prior to the
occupancy of the building; that is, prior to open-
ing for business.
6. Prior to opening for business a Certificate of Occupancy or
other written instrument of acceptance must be obtained from
the Washington County Building Department.
