rather closely to the line when it comes to interpreting fire safety

Regarding your letter of transmittal dated December 23, 1981 , and
directed to the Building Department wherein you state that the intent
is to begin construction of this occupancy immediately after the first
of the year 1981 , we hasten to caution you to proceed very slowly in
this sort of endeavor. It is unlawful to begin construction without
having plans approved by this office, pursuant to Section IV of the Fire
orevention Ordinance of Washington County Fire District No. 1 , and with-
out obtaining a b',ildir,g permit or other written authorization from the
Washington County Building Department.
We are not hesitant about prosecuting such violations nor are we hesitant
in requiring that construction which constitutes a life safety or fire
haz.mrd be razed. Fortunately, the layout of this tenant space was found
to h, in compliance with applicable fire safety regulations. Thus, the
pian' are hereby approved. j
Insp; on and approval of construction by this office is required prior
to the cover of any framing and again prior to the occupancy of the

You will find enclosed herPNith a copy of the respons° which I received as
a result of my letter of February 24, 1981 , which concerned this project.
A floor plan of this pr;,ject area ac-ompanied my aforecited letter.
You will note that Mr. Koyamatsu las decided in your favor in this instance,
although I fail to see how the single tenant factor or occupant load of
less than 40 has any bearing on the issue. Nevertheless, I will abide by
Mr. Koyamatsu's determination a', regards this particular office suite.
As a result of our examination of ,.he plans for this project, re off?r the
following stipulations and comments with respect to other applicable fire
safety regulations.
1 . The public corridor extension, as shown on the drawings,
must be full, "fire isolated" from the remainder of the
building by ,:onstruct.ion having a fire-resistance r ting
of not less than one hour.
(ref: Sec. 3304 U.B C. )
2. All exit dooif, from the suite leading into the public
corridor must be openable from the inside at all times
for immediate exit without the use of a key, special
knowledge or erfort.
(ref: Sec. 3303 U.R.C.)
3. Inspection end approval of construction by this office
is required:
a) prior to cover of interior framing
b) prior to occupancy of the project space.

d awing wh'ch relates to the ecpansion of this suite into the space im'rediately
to the west in conjunction with making an on-site inspection of the project
area with '1r. Dan Hines of your department. As a result we find that the
project, which is approaching completion, is not in conflict with fire safety
regulations and we have given approval to proceed with drywall cover of the
metal stud wall and partition framing elements.
