4. Thermal insulation shall not be installed w;thi-- 3 inches of a
recessed light fixture enclosure, or ballast and shall not be so
installed above the fixture as to entrap neat and prevent the
free circulation of air unless the fixture is otherwise approved
for the purpose.
a) Thermal insulation shall not be installed within 3 inches of
any metal chimney or gas vent.
A permanent sleeve of fine wire mesh screen, sheet metal or
other noncombustible material , shall be installed to maintain the
required clearances. Reference Section 5303(d), S.B.t.
b) Thermal insulation shall not be installed in a manner that
would obstruct openings required for attic ventilation.
5. In lieu of submitting an engineers design, suspended ceilings and
fixtures shall be supported as specified in U.B.C. Standard 47-18
and shall be laterally braced as shown on the attached cross
section. Additional information of standard requirements is
available if needed upon request.
6. Plans for the installation or alteration of the automatic sprinkler
system must be provided to and approved by Washington County Fire
District Ml prior to such installation or alteration.

The plans for the development of this tenant space were referred to this
office on October 31 , 1984. As a result, we offer the following comments.
1 . The plans for alteration of the existing automatic
sprinkler system must be submitted to and approved by
this office prior to any work taking place.
2. HVAC plans must be submitted to and approved by this
office be`ore any installations can take place.
3. The exit corridor at the rear of this tenant space
must have a fire-resistive rating of not less than
one hour.
(ref: Sec. 3305 U.B.C. )
4. The walls of the rear edt corridor must be constructed
with studs no less than 2" X 4" nominal size placed on
16 inch centers. The wall covering must he 5/8-inch
type X gypsum wallboard or the equivalent and said walls
must extend from the floor slab to the roof slab above.
Plans showing detailed drawings of the method of con-

struction of this corridor must be submitted to and
approved by this office prior to any construction taking
place.
5. Door openings (indicated on the plans as door nos. 3
and 4) must he protected by a tight-fitting smoke and
draft control assembly having a firetested in accordance
of not less than 20 minutes when

test. The door and frame must bear an approved label
or other identification showing the rating thereof,
the name of the manufacturer and the identification of
the service conducting the inspection of materials and
workmanship at the factory during fabrication and
assembly. Doors must be maintained self-closing or
must be automatic closing by actuation of a smoke
detector in accordance with Section 4306 (b) of the
Uniform Building Code. Smoke and draft control
assemblies must be provided with a gasket so installed
as to provid al where t"-? door meets the stop on

accessible for servicing in any ducts penetrating the walls

8. Exit doors must be openable from the inside without the use
of a key, special knowledL nr effort. However, this re-
quirement does not apply if a is a readily visible,
durable sign on or adjacent the door stating "THIS DOOR
TO REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUS.NESS HOURS." The sign must be
in letters not less than on inch high on a contrasting back-
ground. The locking device must be a type that is readily
distinguishable as locked. Manually-operated edge or
surface-mounted flush bolts and surface bolts are prohibited.
Pier exit doors are used in pairs, and approved automatic
flush bolts are used, the door leaf having the automati,
flush bolts must have no door knob or surface-mounted hard-
ware. The unlatching of any leaf must not require more
than one operation.

9. Exits must be illuminated at any time the building is occupied
with a light having intensity of not less than 1 footcandle at
floor level .

10. Exit signs must be installed at required exit doorways
and where otherwise necessary to clearly indicate the
direction of egress. The color and design of lettering, .
arrows and other symbols on exit signs must be in high
contrast with their background. Words on the sign must
be in block letters 6 inches in height with a stroke of
not less than 3/4 inches. Signs must be internally or
externally illuminated by two electric lamps or must be
of an approved self-luminous type. When the luminance
on the face of an exit sign is from an external source,
it must hake an intensity of not less than 5.0 footcandle
from either lamp. Internally illuminated signs must provide
equal luminance.

11 . Approved plans bearing the stamps of the Washington County
Building Department as well as this office must be main-
tained on the job site during all phases of construction
and be made av_ilable to building and fire inspectors
upon request.

interior framing element aria again prior to the occupying

1. The rear exit corridor (52 feet long) shall be of one-hour
construction (walls and ceiling).
2. - Doors must be fitted with a type of locking or latching device
which will permit the opening of the door from the inside without
the use of a key, special knowledge or effort, except that exterior
exit doors may be fitted with a keyed locking device which is
readily distinguishable as locked and there is a readily visible,
riurable sign on or ddjacent to the door stating this door to remain
unlocked during business hours.
There shall be floor or landing on each side of a door. The floor
or landing shall be not more than 1/2 inch lower the►. the tireshold
of the doorway. When doors open over landings, the landing shall
have a length of not less than 5 feet. Reference Section 3304,
S.B.C.
3. This office will ac.:ept the stamp of the architect on the plans of
record as certification that to the best of his professional
knowledge, information and belief, the plans are in conformance
with the requirements for energy conservation. Reference Section
5301 , S.B.C.
4. Thermal insulation shall not be installed within 3 inches of a
recessed light fixture enclosure, or ballast and shall not be so
installed above the fixture as to entrap heat and prevent the
free circulation of air unless the fixture is otherwise approved
for the purpose.
a) Thermal insulation shall not be installed within 3 inches of
any metal chimney or gas vent .
A permanent sleeve of fine wire mesh screen, sheet metal or
other• noncombustible material , r.hall be installer: to maintain the
required clearances. Reference Section 5303(d), S.B.C.
b) Thermal insulation shall not be installed in a manner that
would obstruct openings required for attic ventilation.
5. In lieu of submitting an Engineers design, suspended ceilings and
fixtures shall be supported as specified in U.H.C. Standard 47 18
and shall be laterally braced as shown on the attached cross
section. Additional information of standard requirements is
available if needed upon request.
6. Plans for the installation or alteration of the automatic sprinkler
system must be provided to and approved by Washington Couni, Fire
District 01 prior to such instatlatior or alteration.

The plans for the development of this tenant space were referred to this
office on October 31 , 1984. As a result, we offer the following comments.
1 . The plans for alteration o' the existing automatic
sprinkler system must he submitted to and approved by
this office prior to any work taking place.
2. HVAC plans must be submitted to and approved by this
office before any installations can take place.
3. The exit :orridor at the rear of thir tenant space
must have a fire-resistive rating of not less than
one hour.

4. The walls of the rear exit corridor must be constructed
with studs no less than 2" X 4" nominal size placed on
16 inch centers. the wall covering must be 5/8-inch
type X gypsum wallboard or the equivalInt and said walls
must exte d from the floor slab to the roof slab above.
Plans showing detailed drawings of the method of con-
struction of this corrieor must .1e submitted to and
approved by this office prior to any construction taking
place. ,,
5. Door openings (indicated on the plans as r►oor nos. 3
and 4) must he protected by a tight-fitting smoke and
draft control assembly having a fire protection rating
of not less than 20 minutes when tested in accordance
with U.B.C. Standard No. 43-2 without the hose stream

test. The door and frame must bear an approved label
or other identification showing the rating thereof,
the name of the manufacturer and the identification of
the service conducting the inspection of materials and
workmanship at the factory during fabricction and
assembly. Doors must be maintained self-closing or
must be automatic closing by actuation of a smoke
detector in accordance with Section 4306 (b) of the
Uniform Building Code. Smoke and draft control
assemblies must be provided with a gasket so installed
as to provi.ie a seal where the door meets the stop on
both sides and across the top.

6. Fire dampers complying with he requirements of U.B.C.
Standard No. 43-7 must be i talled and be readily
accessible for servicing in any ducts penetrating the walls
in the ore-hour corridor required in item no. 4.
7. All insulation materials including facings, such as vapor
barriers or breather papers installed in roof-ceiling
assemblies , walls or attics lutist have a flame-spread rating
not to exceed 25 and a smoke density not to exceed 45C when
tested in accordance with U.B.C. Standard No. 42-1 (Steiner
Tunnel Test).

8. Exit doors must be openable from the inside without the use
of a key, special knowledge or effort. However, this re-
quirement does not apply if there is a readily visible,
durable sign on or adjacent to the door stating "THIS DOOR
TO REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS HOURS." The sign must be
in letters not less than one inch high on a contrasting back-
ground. The locking device must be a type that is readily
distinguisiable as locked. Manually-operated edge or
surface-mounted flush bolts and surface bolts are prohibited.
When exit doors are used in pairs, and approved automatic
flush bolts are used, the door leaf having the automatic
flush bolts must have no door knob or surface-mounted hard-
ware. The unlatching of any leaf must not require more
then one operation.

9. Exits must he illuminated at any time the building is occupied
with a light having intensity of not less than 1 footcandle at
floor level .

10. Exit signs must be installed at required exit doorways
and where otherwise necessary to clearly iniicate the
direction of egress. The color and design of lettering,
arrows and other symbols on exit signs must be in high
contrast with their background. Words on the sign must
be in block letters 6 inches in height with a stroke of
not less than 3/4 inches. Signs must be internally or
externally Illuminated by two electric lamps or must be
of an approved self-luminous type. When the luminance
on the face of an exit sign is from an external source,
it must have an intensity of not less than 5.0 footcandle
from either lamp. Internally illuminated signs must provide
equal luminance.

11 . Approved plans bearing the stamps of the Washington County
Building Department as well as this office must be main-
tained on the job site during all phases of construction
and be made available to building and fire i,6pectors
upon request.

12. Please call for inspections prior to the covering of any
interior framing element and again prior to the occupying
of this tenant space.

13. A Certificate of Occupancy must be obtained from the Wash-
ington County Building Department before this space can be
