Second Avenue Portland, Oregon 97204 Dear Mr. Case: Re: Portland Luggage - Square Too (PC 4070) In response to your letter of August 6, 1984, based upon your stipulation that the second story will be used only for storage, we hereby withdraw the requirement for a secondary means of exit. Since the use of that space was not identified on the drawings, I suppose Mr. Jeffries in his review of the plans assumed the "worst case," so to speak, to he on the safe side. The plans for this project are hereby approved subject to the tolllwing conditions, provisions for which were not noted on the drawings. 1 . With respect to the main entrance/exit door assembly, when the "active leaf" is unlocked the "inactive leaf" must be free to swing. That is, the use of edge bolts, flush bolts or any other restraining device on either leaf is prohibited. 2. All doors shown on the drawings must be openable from the inside at all times for immediate exit without the use of a key, special knowledge or effort; except that the exterior doors may be fitted with keyed dead- locks if they are of the "indicai.ing" type and there is posted on or over the door, in each instance, a sign reading "THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS HOURS" in letters not less than 1 inch in height on a contrasting background. 3. One set of approved plays bearing the stamps of the Washington County Building Department and this office must be maintained on the project site thri.,,lout a.l phases of construction and must be made avcrlable to building and fire insp"ctors for reference curing required construction inspections. Since the use of that space was rot identified on the drawings, I suppose Mr. Jeffries in his review of the plans assumed the "worst case," co to speak, to be on the safe side. The plans for this project are hereby approved subject to the following conditions, provisions for which were not noted on the drawings. 1 . With respect to the main entrance/Exit door assembly, when the "active leaf" is unlocked the "inactive leaf" must be free to swing. That is, the use of edge bolts, flush bolts or any other restraining device on either leaf is prohibited. 2. All doors shown on the drawings must be (Tenable from the inside at all times for immediate exit without the use of a key, special knowledge or effort; except that the exterior doors may be fitted with keyed dead- locks if they are of the "indicating" type and there is posted on or over the door, in each instance, a sign reading THIS DOOR TO REMAIN UNLOCKED DURING BUSINESS HOURS" in letters not less than 1 inch in height on a contrasting background. 3. One set of approved plans bearing the stamps of the Washington County Building Department and this office must be maintained on the project site throughout all phases of construction and must be made available to building and fire inspectors for reference during required construction inspections.
