Dear Mr. Christopher:
Re: Citi Kid's Shop
Building A. Squire Too
The plans for this occupancy have beer; examined with reference to currently
applicable fire safety regulations, and I regret to inform you that we can-
not approve them in this Bard.
In the first ir„tance, 'If floor area of the sales space indicates a potential
occupancy load of more 150 and therefore two exits must be provided. That
is, the rear exit is a required exit, and the path of exit travel cannot in-
clude stock rooms or skices where the path of exit travel could he obstructed.
For your further information in this regard, please refer to subsection (e) of
Section 3303 of the Uniform Building Code, an adopted regulation of this juris-
diction.
'secondly, the drawings indicate that the main entrance will t,,! served by a
pair of doors with each door leaf being 2 foot 6 inches in wider. This also
is not acceptable. That is, each exit door must be 'apzhle of opening so
that the clear width of the path of exit is not less than 3? inches. Fach
leaf of an exit door assembly should be nominally 36 inches in width.
Where pairs of doors are used as exits when the ''active" leaf is unlocked, the
"inactive" leaf must be free to swing. The unlatching of any leaf must not
require more than one operation and the use of manually operated edge or surface
mounted flush bolts and surface bolts is prohibited.

Exclusive of the exterior doors, all doors shown on the drawings mu;t be openable
from the inside at all times for immediate exit without the use of a key, special
knowledge or effort. Exterior doors may be fitted with keyed deadlocks if they
are of the "indicating" type (that is, being readily distinguishable as being
locked when they are in the locked position) and there is postfd above or on the
door a sign reading "This Door Must Remain Unlocked During Business Hours" in
letters not less than one inch in height on a contrasting background.
Under the provisions of the Fire Prevention Ordinance of Washington County Fire
District No. 1 , this building is required to have full automatic sprinkler
protection. With the development of this tenant space, the automatic sprinkler
system must be extended to all spaces below the suspended ceiling. Ceiling mc..,ced
automatic sprinkler heads must not he located closer than one foot nor more than
7 1/2 feet from any wall or partition or any other obstruction which would inter-
fere with the spray pattern.
We are obliged to withhold endorsement of the building permit until there is
some written assurance that the minimum fire safety regulations will be observed.
Please study carefully the foregoing comments and stipulations and call me if you
should- ave any question or if I can be of service in any other way.
Sincere yours,
(l WASHI JTON UNIY F IRE 1` 10 'T NO. 1

Dear Mr. Christopher:
Re: City Kids Shop - Building A
Square Too
The revised plans for this tenant improvement project have been examined
and discussed with the representative of the Washington County Building
Department. We understand that he has conveyed to you our concern regard-
ing the path of exit being open to the sales area and that the walls
which separate the path of exit from the adjacent office and stockroom
on either side going full height.
That is, we understand that the exitway will be separated from these
spaces by full height partitions and will be provided with a tering
similar to that of the sales area.
We also note that the main entrance/exit door assembly will now employ
doors which have leafs at least 3 feet in width.
The remaining stipulations contained in my letter to you of July 23
contirue to apply and subject to the foregoing comments, the revised
plans are hereby approved.
We trust this letter will assist in clearing the way for the project's
rurther" elopment. If I can be of service in any other way, please
let me kno .
Since, yours,.
