The plans for this tenant space have been examined with reference to fire
safety requirements. Listed as follows are conditions and stipulations
which must be observed during the course of construe`ion and for which we
found no provisions within the submitted drawings.
1 . Firestopping: If wood framing is employed in wall and
partition construction,firestopping must be provided at
each ceiling line. This firestopping may be composed
of 2-inch lumber or 1/2-inch gypsum plasterboard.
Penetrations made to accommodate wiring, plumbing, etc. ,
• must be packed, following the installation of each
utility run, in a mariner which will effectively main
tain the integrity of the firestopping and cut off
all concealed draft openings which could afford a
passage for flame.
2. Automatic Sprinkler Protection: The automatic sprinkler
system extension os shown on the reflected ceiling plan
is somewhat confusing owing to what appears to be changes
made with red pencil . In any case, full sprinkler
coverage is required and ceiling-mounted automatic
sprinklers must not be located closer than 1 foot nor
t more than 7-1/2 feet from any wall , partition or
i similar bulkhead.

3. Architectural Finish Hardware• All doors shown on the draw-
ings must be openable from tFie zns;ue for immediate exit
without the use of a key, special knowledge or effort. Where
pairs of doors are employed for exiting purpose when the
"active" leaf is unlocked, both leaves must be free to swing.
That is, the use of edge bolts, flush bolts and similar
restraining devices is prohibited.
4. Retention of Plans: One set of approved plans bearing the
stamps of the Washington County Building Department and
this office must be maintained on the project site throughout
all phases of construction and must be made available to
building and fire inspectors for reference during required
construction inspections.
5. Inspections: Inspection and approval of construction by a
representative of this office is required:
a) prior to the cover of anywall and
partition framing
elements following the installation of all utility
runs which will be concealed within wall and par-
tition cavities.
b) upon completion of construction and prior to opening
for business.
6. Certificate of Occupancy: Prior to opening for business a
Certificate of Occupancy or other written instrument of
approval must be obtained from the Washington County Build-
ing Department.
Sub r• to the foregoing the plans are hereby approved. f hope this letter
will assist in clearing the way for the further development of the project.

Confirming our telephone conversation of June 6 the revision to the floor
plan drawing shown in ballpoint pen on sheet 2 and the sprinkler head lay-
out shown on sheet 6 are acceptable insofar as fire safety regulations
apply
I understand that you will be preparing revised drawings which will sub-
sequently be submitted by the successful contractor in applying for a
building permit.
As mentioned, the stock area need be ory physically separated from the
path of exit and nc door is required. That is, a cased opening will
suffice.

1) Doors must be fitted with a type of locking or lrtching device
which will permit the opening of t'e door from the inside without
the use of a key, special knowledge or effort, except that exterior
exit doors may be fitted with a keyed locking device which is
readily distinguishable as locked and there is a readily visible,
durable sign on or adjacent to the door stating this door to remain
unlocked during business hours.
2) Glass used in doors or in glazing located within 12 inches of the . +
nearest vertical edge of a door or in areas subject to human
impact, shall be tempered or of an approved safety glazing
material . Reference Section 5406, S.B.C.
3) Firestoppinq consisting of 2-inch (nominal ) lumber, gypsum
plasterboard or equivalent material is required to cut off all
concealed draft openings (both vertical and horizontal ) and shall
form an effective barrier between stories and between a top story
and roof space. It shall be used in specific locations as follows:
a) In all wood-framed walls and partitions at floor and ceiling •
lines.
c) At maximum horizontal intervals of 10 feet in the case of
double stud walls, partitions and furred spaces.
d) Penetrations made in this prescribed firestopping t )
accommodate wiring, plumbing, duct work and similar utility rons •
must be packed, in a manner, wh h will effectively maintain the
integrity of the firestopping and cut off all coirealed draft
openings which could afford a passage for flame. Reference
Section 2516, S.B.C.
4) In lieu of submitting ;:n engineers design, suspended ceilings and
fixtures shall be supported as specified in U.B.C. Standard 47-18
and shall he laterally braced as shown on the attached cross
section. Additional information of standard requirements is
available if needed upon request.
5) Plans for the installation or alteration of the automatic sprinkler
system must be provided to and approved by Washington County Fire
District 01 prior to such installation or alteration.
6) A plumbing permit will be required prior t: the installation or any
alteration of the sanitation or potable water systems. Plumbing
permits are now available at the Building Division counter.
7) Subject to the above listed i'ems the plan! for this project are
approved for constru..tion, ins far as the Land ')evelopment
Services Division requirements apply.
