Dear Sirs:
This letter is being forwarded to your office at the request of the subje..t
projects building inspector through the contractor regarding our offices ap-
proval of the wall footing f r the drive-up window being placed over the ex-
r_avvtion for the remote drive-up tube system.
Coordination of the footing and tube installation was such that placement of
the tube was not possible prior to placing the footing for the new reinforced
concrete wall. Rather than place the footing and then excavate for the in-
stallation of the tube system, it was a consensus opini..o that the best solu-
tion was to place the reinforced footing over the 36 inch trench as a grade
beam and then compact the fill under the footing after the installation of the
tube system. Additional footing reinforcing was placed in the footing over
the trench excavation. This construction was approved by our office as the
footing reinforcing is tied to the wall reinforcing above to act as an inverted
which is capable of spanning the trench excavation. The new concrete wall
at the drive-up window is tied into the existing concrete side panels at 24"
o.c. and will not receive any superimposed loading as the glazed window section
above is presently independently supported from the side walls.
Our office will review the compaction of the backfill under and around the new
footing once the remote tube system has been installed and tested.
We appreciate your inspectors concern at the time of inspection and your request
for our offices formal approval to assure that alterations to the Contract Docu-
ments have received our review.
The reputation of the contractor on this project allows this type of approval,
but wcan understand where on some projects, there is a need for verification
of prior approval for construction techniques. As a Design Professional it is
encouraging that you require such approval.

The plans for the alteration of this building and the construction of a drive-up
window with attached canopy have been examined with reference to currently appli-
cable fire safety regulations. Listed as follows are certain requirements which
must be observed during the course of construction and for which we found no
specific provisions in the submitted contract documents.
1 . Regarding Sections 6A-5C of the specifications, in all new
wood-framed galls and partitions firestopping consisting of
2-inch (nominal ) lumber, gypsum plasterboard or equivalent
material is required at all floor and ceiling lines. Pene-
trations made in this prescribed firestopping to accommodate
utility runc must be packed, following the installation of
any utility run, in a manner which will effectively maintain
the integrity of the firestopping and cut off all concealed
draft openings which could afford a passage for flame.

2. inspection and approval of construction by this office is
required:
a) prior to the cover of any wood framing following the
installation of the utility runs and firestopping
referred to in requirement no. 1 .
b) up'ln completion of construction and prior to final

Dear Sirs:
This letter is being forwarded to your office at the request of the subject
projects building inspector through the contractor regarding our offices ap-
proval of the wall footing for the drive-up window being placad over the ex-
cavation for the remote drive-up tube system.
Coordination of the footing and tube installation was such that placement of
the tube was not possible prior to placing the footing for the net reinforced
concrete wall. Rather than place the footing and then excavate fit the in-
stallatior, of the tube system, it was a consensus opinion that the best solu-
tion ..as to place the reinforced footing over the 36 inch trench as a grade
beam ar.d then compact the fill under the footing after the installation of the
tube system. Additional footing reinforcing was placed in t'ie footing over
the trench excavatior., This construction was approved by our office as the
footing reinforcing is tied to the wall reinforcing above to roc'. as an inverted
"1" which is capable of spanning the trench excavation. The new concrete wall
at the drive-up window is tied into the exis'.ing concrete side panels at 24"
o.c. and will not receive any superimposed loading as the glazed window section
above is presently indepenurntly supported fr.xn the side walls.
Our office will review the compaction of the backfill under and around the new
footing once the remote tube system has been installed and tested.
We appreciate your inspectors concern at the time cif ins;ection and your request
for our offices formal approval to assure that alterations Lo the Contract Docu-
ments have received our review.
The reputation of the contractor on this project allows this type of approval,
but we can understand where on some projects, there is a need for verification
of p:ior approval for construction techniques. As a Design Professional. it is
encouraging that you require such approval.
