The plans for this proposed remodel project have been examined with
-=:f'rence to the currently applicable regulations of this jurisdiction.
a result our first comment relates to your general note nos. 5
.end 6 concerning the automatic sprinkler protection. Full coverage
I , required and ceiling-mounted sprinkler heads must not be located
closer than 1 foot nor more than 7-1 /2 feet from walls, partitions
and similar bulkheads. It is recommended that the sprinkler drawings
be submitted to and approved by a representative of this office prior
'0 proceeding with any sprinkler alteration work.
In wood framed walls and partitions firestopping must be provided
at the (Ailing line. This firestrpping must consist of 2-inch nominal
lumber, gypsum plasterboard or some equivalent material of equal
fire resistance. nenetrations made of this firestopping to accommodate
wiring, plumbing, duct work and similar utility runs must he packed,
following the installation of said utility runs, in a manner which
will effectively maintain the integrity of the firestopping and cut
off all concealed draft openings which could afford a passage for
flame.
All doors shown on the Jrawings must be openable from the inside
at all tines for immediate exit without the use of a key, special
knowledge or effort.
One set of approved plans bearing the stamps of the Washington Co my
Building Department and this office must he maintained on the project
site throughout all phases of construction and must be made available
to building and fire inspectors for reference during required
construction inspections.

Inspection and approval of construction by a representative of this
office is required before application of any drywall to new or existing
walls and partitions and again prior to opening for business. Also,
prior to opening for business, a Certificate of Occupant" or other
written instrument of approval must be obtained from the Washington
County Building Department.
Subject the foregoing comments and stipulations the plans are hereby
approved. I hope this letter will assist in clearing the way for

1) A double acting door shall be provided with a view panel of not
less than 200 square inches.
?) Doors must be fitted with a type of locking or latching device
which will permit the opening of the door from the inside without
the use of a key, special knowledge or effort, except that exterior
exit doors may be fitted with a keyed locking device which is
readily distinguishable as locked and there is a readily visible,
durable sign on or adjacent to the door stating this door to remain
unlocked during business hours.
3) Glass used in doors or in glazing located within 12 inches of the
nearest vertical edge of a door or in areas subject to human
impact, shall be tempered or of an approved safety glazing
material . Reference Section 5406, S.B.C.
4) Firestopping consisting of 2-inch (nominal ) lumber, gypsum
plasterboard or equivalent material is required to cut off all
concealed draft openings (beth vertical and horizontal ) and shall
form an effective barrier between stories and between a top story
and roof space. It shall be used in specific locations as follows.
al In all wood-framed walls and partitians at floor and ceiling
lines.
b) Along and in lines with the run of the stairway in adjacent
wood studwalls and partitions; also, at the top and the bottom of
the stairway.
c) At maximum horizontal intervals of 10 feet in the case of
double stud walls. partitions and furred spaces.
