SUBJECT: Monthly Report,January, -1979
1 . Administration:
a. The regular meeting of the Library was concelled on January 8 because of
bad weather and rescheduled for January 22. Minutes are attached.
b. Librarian attended a panel discussion on "The Art of Lobbying" at
Marylhurst College, January 25. Of interest: panelists represented various areas
of government and libraries and discussed techniques and pitfalls of lobbying
the State Legislature. One panelist advocated seeking state support to libraries from
the general fund. Such a a bill will be reintroduced this session.
c. The Friends of the Washington County Libraries held a meeting at
Tigard Public Library (TPL) on January 29. Of interest: the group began planning
means of locating and asking for monies to build libraries in the County.
d. Librarian attended Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS)
network meeting on January 31 . Of interest: budgets for WCCLS administration and
services and the community libraries were approved. TPL's share of the county levy
for 1979-80 will. be $76,724.
e. The Library was open each scheduled day during the period of bad weather, but
early clo- e (5:00 P.M. ) was necessary January 4, 8 and 9.
2. Personnel:
a. Stuff member Kathy Tremaine continues on Maternity Leave. She is due to
return March 1 .
b. Volunteer hours totaled 135, averaging 5.2 per day.

4. Programs:
a. Friends of the Library meeting scheduled for January 4 was cancelled because
of bad weather.
b. January 24 the Tigard Area Historical and Preservation Association held
its quarterly meeting at the Library.
c. A new branch of American Association of University Women will be holding
meetings at the Library on the last Saturday of each month.
d. St. Anthony's and Gaarde St. Christian (elementary schools) continue to
utilize the various classes. Stat Right Day Care brings children to the Library
for a weekly story time. Edwards Care Center, Aloha, continue to visit the Library
on a regular three-week schedule.
