I observed crew had placed backfill at the toe of the retaining wall on lot 119 for wall embedment(see site plan). I
observed crew appeared to have backfilled against the toe of the retaining wall that had previously been observed to
not have embedment. Backfill appeared to consist of%"-0 crushed rock and approx. 6"thick on the south end of the
retaining wall, and backfill appeared to consist of brown silt for the north end of the retaining wall. NEI crew
informed me compaction of the backfill was achieved via jumping jack. Using a%2"diameter steel foundation probe, I
evaluated the relative consistency of the wall embedment. Probe resistance indicated generally dense crushed rock,
and medium stiff to stiff silt backfill.
NEI crew informed me they re-compacted the crushed rock retaining wall backfill utilizing a jumping jack. The wall
backfill appeared to consist of%"-0 crushed rock, and visually appeared to be well keyed and firm underfoot. Pin
resistance (number of blows to drive a 3"diameter steel pin 12" using a 6Ib sledge) indicated generally dense wall
backfill conditions.
Based on our observations, it is our opinion the retaining wall embedment and wall backfill observed today, as
indicated on the attached site plan, has been prepared in general accordance with our geotechnical
recommendations.
