SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

Whereas, Tigard celebrates its local small businesses and the contributions they
make to our local economy and community; and y_.
Whereas, the Small Business Administration notes that there are currently 30.2
million small businesses in the United States and they are responsible for 65.9 Nr
percent of net new jobs created from 2000 to 2017; and
Whereas, small businesses employ 47.5 percent of the employees in the private ' t
sector in the United States; and
Whereas, small businesses contribute positively to the local community by supplying *...,
jobs and generating tax revenue; and .
Whereas, small businesses are critical to the overall economic health of the city; and
Whereas, small businesses rely on local residents and visitors to support the services
p
and goods that small business owners provide to the community; and
Whereas, the city supports local businesses that create jobs, boost the local
economy and preserve neighborhood character and livability; and
Whereas, advocacy groups as well as public and private organizations across the
country endorse the Saturday after Thanksgiving as Small Business Saturday.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that 1, John L. Cook, Mayor of the City of
Tigard, Oregon, do hereby proclaim Saturday, November 24, 2018 as, .�

in Tigard, Oregon and encourage people throughout the city to support Small Business
Saturday and celebrate the role these entrepreneurs play in the growth of our
