Zimmerman steps in as the new assistant city manager, replacing Liz Newton,who recently retired after serving the city more than three decades. Zimmerman is no stranger to leadership and issues facing Tigard and other communities in the growing metro region. A Portland native and former captain in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (Oregon Army National Guard), Zimmerman most recently served as the chief of staff for Multnomah County District 4 and earlier as a property appraiser for Multnomah County. "We conducted a national search and wanted a leader who understood the city's core values and had the vison and skills to help our city achieve its key priorities," said Marty Wine, city manager. "Zimmerman stood out from many qualified candidates. He will take on critical roles,helping to oversee the administration of an organization with nearly 300 employees and a budget of$218 million and assisting with the city's possible future request to voters for a local option levy." As a member of the city's leadership team, Zimmerman will also play an important role helping the city advance its strategic vision to be the most walkable community in the Pacific Northwest where people of all ages and abilities enjoy healthy and interconnected lives. In addition to his 10 years of public service, Zimmerman holds bachelor of science and master of business administration degrees from the University of Portland. During his deployment to Iraq in 2009 with the Oregon Army National Guard, he earned the Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Action Badge. Zimmerman looks forward to continuing his lifelong career in public service serving Tigard residents and to meeting with community members and businesses in the coming months. Page 1 of 1
