City Prepares for Cuts Following Levy Vote The Tigard Budget Committee approved a budget for fiscal year 2018-2019 that will see the first set of an anticipated $5 million in cuts over the next two years. Reductions will be seen in all city departments. The proposed budget next heads to the City Council, who will consider the plan on June 26. By state law, the council must adopt a balanced budget by the end of June. Tigard Voters Fail to Pass City Ballot Measure Election results show Measure 34-283, the City of Tigard's request for an operating and capital levy to fund police, parks and the library, did not pass on the May 15 ballot. Following the election, the city's Budget Committee approved a budget that will reduce services and expenditures by $2.6 million in fiscal year 2018-2019. Read more... Police Open House Cancelled The Tigard Police Department has cancelled its June Open House, given recent feedback from the public and impending budget cuts. We value these kind of events because they allow us to meet many community members at one time, establish rapport and show neighbors what we do. We will revisit the option of hosting another Open House at a later date. Large vehicles have much greater stopping distances than cars. A fully loaded semi weighs about 20 times more than a passenger car. The council also held public hearings and passed three city charter amendment changes to address nuisance property issues and the open storage of junk vehicles. Read more...
