Dear Sirs ,
This is a Fire and Life Safety Plan Review and is based on the 1982
edition of the State of Oregon Structural Specialty Code and Fire and
Life Safety Code (UBC) and the 1982 edition of the State of Oregon
Mechanical Specialty Code and Mechanical Fire and Life Safety Code
(UMC) and local ordinances.
Hardware for all doors required for egress is required to be of a
simple type having no provisions for locking against egress, with obvious
method of operation. Flush bolts other than listed automatic are not
acceptable. UBC Section 3303 (see exception)
Exit signs shall be installed at required exit doorways and where
otherwise necessary to clearly indicate the direction of egress when
the exit serves an occupant load of 50 or more. UBC Section 3314(a) .
Fire stops , blocking or framing members pierced for utility runs
require packing to equal fire resistance prior to such piercing. Wood
frame construction requires firestopping of both vertical and horizontal
draft openings at maximum intervals of 10 feet. UBC Section 2517(f)
Surface flame spread rates of walls and ceilings, minimum requirement:
stairway 25, corridors - 75, other rooms - 200. UBC Section 4204.
All exposed insulation materials , including facings, shall have a maximum
flame spread rating of 25 and a smoke density not to exceed 450. UBC
Section 1718(c)
Conformance with all requirements for the removal of architectural barriers
to the handicapped is required in compliance with UBC Chapter 31.
Thermal insulation shall not be installed within 3 inches of a recessed
light fixture enclosure, or ballast and shall not be installed above the
fixture as to trap heat. UBC Section 1718(d)
A firefighting water supply is required (prior to any combustible
construction) within 250 feet of all portions of the building (UFC Section
10.301(c) .
Not less than one approved fire extinguisher with a rating of not less
than 2-A: 10-B:C shall be provided for each 3,000 sq. ft. of floor area or
fraction thereof. The travel distance to an extinguisher from any portion
of the building shall not exceed 75 feet. UFC Standard No. 10-1

One set of approved plans, specifications , and plan review shall be kept
on the construction site where the work authorized thereby is in progress.
UBC Section 303(b)
Approval of submitted plans is not an approval of omissions or oversights
by this office or of non-compliance with any applicable regulations of local
government.
This structure (or tenant space) has not received a final inspection
and is NOT approved for occupancy.
A member of Fire Prevention staff shall make framing and final inspection(s)
of your new construction project. Please call for an appointment 24
hours prior to the time that you think that your project will be ready for
one of the above noted inspections. Reinspection of violations written
during one of the above inspections also will be required at the
discretion of the inspector.
Normal office hours for Fire District Inspectors are from 8:00 to 9:00 AM
and from 4:30 to 5:00 PM. Inspection requests and questions should be
made by phone during these hours only. Whenever possible please ask
for the inspector you wish to talk to by name.
