The purpose of the memo is to address questions raised by the contractor and/or
inspector during the construction of the residence listed above.
Question 1: The shear wall adjacent to the stairs is to be a double-sided
shear wall, type F. The interior sheathing was not installed
before the stairs were installed. What is the solution?
ANSWER 1: The plywood may break at the location of the landing. 2x flat
blocking shall be installed above and below the location of
the stair landing ledger. The plywood shall be nailed off to
the blocking per the nailing schedule. The blocking shall be
nailed through to the lower blocking with 16d at 3" on center
across the full length of the wall. And, while the plan shows
the shear wall hatching on the garage wing wall side, the
wall is not required to be sheathed on this side. The wall is
just to be sheathed on the interior for the length of the
landing wall.
