Ventura Dr. Tigard, Or 97223 This Arborist report is in response to concerns from Erin Dwyer. About a cherry tree with a sever lean and significant trunk decay. I visited the site to asses and photograph the tree on 04-24-2018. Assessment This tree is located on the right-hand side of the home (facing the home from the street), toward the back in the side yard. The first very noticeable thing about this cherry is that it has a 25%plus lean toward the neighbor's home. This cherry is of significant size and would pose serious threat to the home and any occupants if it were to fail. As I furthered my assessment I noticed a large area of open bark several feet in length and approximately 10-15"wide revealing a large area of decay on the underside of the lean toward the neighbor's home about 20' up the trunk. Giving me cause for concern, because of the obvious loss of structural integrity at a spot in the tree that is a bending point in times of wind and adverse weather. This cherry doesn't seem to be healing very well from this, there was a lack of reaction wood to compensate for this wound. This also leads me to believe that the tree is having a hard time compartmentalizing this wound to get it to stop spreading. Furthermore, the tree's canopy is weighted heavy to the lean side putting more stress on the bend point that has started to rot. I feel that there is a high potential for failure because of the severity of the wound and where it is located on the trunk. Conclusion In my professional opinion, I believe that it would be the best thing to remove this tree as soon as possible to prevent any structural damage (or worse)to the neighboring home.
