During drop-off and pick-up times, drivers frequently attempt to circumvent this gridlock by veering into the oncoming traffic lane or engaging in other dangerous maneuvers. "The problems have been rampant at Templeton,"says Tigard Police Officer Travis Doughty. "We knew if we could get more kids walking and biking with a Safe Routes to School program, we could reduce some of the congestion." Tigard Volunteers Keep the Community Strong Tigard's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is a volunteer group of trained and dedicated individuals who keep our community strong by connecting neighbors to help deter crime and prepare for and respond to major storms, earthquakes and other emergencies. In 2017, Tigard's 190 CERT volunteers dedicated 4,386 hours to the city. Read more... Tigard's Two Farmers Markets Open This Month The Downtown Tigard Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., starting May 6. This year, the market will be located on Burnham Street, between Main Street and Ash Avenue. The Bull Mountain Farmers market opens for its early plant sale on May 5 and 6 and the full market on May 12. It is located 14389 SW Pacific Highway. Read more... Metzger After-School Program Cancelled Tigard Parks & Recreated hosted a pilot after school program at Metzger Elementary School during the 2016-2017 school year. During the spring season, recreation staff led 35 students in activities like cooking, soccer and art. Due to planned reductions, the after- school program at Metzger Elementary this spring will be cancelled. Read more... City Council Recap for April The City Council approved a resolution to the partnership agreement between Tigard and Lake Oswego to accurately reflect Tigard's share of the water capacity (18/38ths). The council also held a joint meeting with the Tigard Library Board and recapped library services and operations for the 2016-2017 fiscal year. Read more...
