excavating
During the day, I observed CCS crew in the process of repairing soft subgrade, noted in field report 208 and 209 per
our geotechnical recommendations, utilizing an Air Knife system (see field report 208 and 209 for details).
Recommended that east side perimeter footings be additional excavated by approx. 1' to provide 5-feet of
horizontal offset between the edge of the footing and free face of the slope. Based on probe resistance, we
recommended additional excavations of soft subgrade areas ranging from 6"to 12"BGS today(see site plan and
below for details). After additional excavation, I re-evaluated the subgrade and observed the subgrade to generally
be stiff to medium stiff.
Lot 179
Additional excavation observed today;
• 7'x2'x6"
• 15'x2'x10"
Lot.178
Additional excavation observed today;
• 13'x2'x12"
• 10'x2'x6"
• 20'x2'x12"
Lot 177
Additional excavation observed today; which caves into
• 16'x2'x12" overexcavated footing
• 1 o'x2'x8" subgrades
• 20'x2'x6"
I observed that due to wet weather, there was free standing waterin the surface of the footing subgrade.
Recommend footings be de-watered and any saturated/loose soil a removed f before pouring
footing. Recommend that time be limited in which footing subgrade is left exposed.
Based on our observations and probing, it is our opinion that subgrade observed today(contingent on following
recommendations noted above),where observed today and indicated on attached site plan, have been prepared in
general accordance with our geotechnical recommendations.
