GDI Project: Polygon-129-03 Prepared By: Kyle Hanson
Project Name: River Terrace East Date: 2/22/18
Location: SW Scholls Ferry&Roy Rogers,Bvrtn. Report#: 206
Arrival: 1400 Departure: 1445
Weather: Sunny, 30s Permit#: TBD
Site Visit Requested By: Spencer(NEI) Met With (on site): Keywest crew, Spencer
(phone)
Purpose: Observe wall backfill and Lots 173-175
Outstanding Issues: Proof roll road and curb base rock and repair as needed before paving
FR-58(12/06) Decommission temporary storm and sewer lines through Tract E
FR-177 soft fill from slope cut in lots 153, 154 and 155
Wall Backfill Observation
Upon arrival, I observed Keywest crew placing Lock+Load blocks and backfilling where indicated on the attached site
plan. I was informed that backfill material was%" minus crushed rock sourced for Baker(Farmington). Compaction
efforts were completed utilizing a large walk behind plate compactor. Using a Troxler 3430 nuclear density gauge, I
tested the density of the granular backfill and compared the results against a lab produced proctor(ASTM D1557)
value of 127.2pcf at 13.6 percent optimum moisture content. Areas tested met or exceeded our compaction
recommendations of 95%maximum dry density value. Pin resistance(the number of blows required to drive a 3/"
diameter steel pin 1 foot into the material)of the backfill indicated dense backfill conditions today, and the material
was firm/unyielding underfoot and well keyed.
Lots 173-175 Observation
I observed subgrade structural fill material where indicated on the attached site plan for Lots 173-175. I was
informed that the fill consisted of%"-0 recycled concrete from Tigard Sand&Gravel by Spencer with NEI. The
material was compacted in 1 foot lifts with a large segmented pad roller and had a total thickness of approximately
12 feet. Using a Troxler 3430 nuclear density gauge, I tested the density of the material and compared the results
against a maximum dry density of 118 pcf at 14.5 percent optimum moisture content. Areas tested met or
exceeded our compaction recommendations of 95%maximum dry density value. Pin resistance(the number of
blows required to drive a%"diameter steel pin 1 foot into the material)indicated dense to very dense conditions
today, and the material was firm/unyielding underfoot.
Conclusion
Based on observations, density testing, and pin resistance, it is our opinion that wall backfill and subgrade fill for
Lots 173-175 observed today,at the approximate elevations/locations evaluated and where indicated on the
attached site plan(s), have been/are being prepared in general accordance with our geotechnical recommendations.
