FESIGN= FIELD REPORT Page ] of 2 GDI Project Polygon-129-03 Prepared By: Bret Moskal Project Name: River Terrace East Date: 2/8/18 Location: SW Scholls Ferry&Roy Rogers,Bvrtn Report#: 197 Arrival: 0845;1300 Departure 1115, 1340 Weather: Overcast, 40's Permit#: TBD Site Visit Requested By: Ken (Polygon),Spencer(NEI) Met With (on site): Ken (Polygon), Keywest crew Purpose: Observe lot 67, Wall 21 backfill, and lot 173-175 backfill Outstanding Issues: Proof roll road and curb base rock and repair as needed before paving FR-58 (12/06) Decommission temporary storm and sewer lines through Tract E FR-163 Deflection in roadway FR-177 soft fill from slope cut in lots 153, 154 and 155 *Resolved* Wall 21 Upon arrival, I observed Keywest crew in the process of placing backfill for wall 21 (see site plan). I was informed that backfill material was %" minus crushed rock sourced for Baker(Farmington). Compaction efforts were completed utilizing a large walk behind plate compactor next to the wall and a small smooth drum roller for wall fill. Using a Troxler 3430 nuclear density gauge, I tested the density of the granular backfill and compared the results against a lab produced proctor(ASTM D1557)value of 127.2pcf at 13.6 percent optimum moisture content. Areas tested met or exceeded our compaction recommendations of 95%compaction of maximum dry density value. Lot 67 While onsite, I observed earthwork crew had prepared subgrade for lot 67.At time of arrival, earthwork crew had placed a cover approx. 2"of%" minus crushed rock over the subgrade. Using a W diameter steel foundation rod I probed the lots aggregate base. Probing indicated well-keyed base. Probing through the aggerate base I observed the underlying subgrade to generally be stiff. I was informed that earthwork crew had over excavated soft footing subgrade, within area noted on attached site plan, by approx. 16"to 24". I was informed that crew had backfill excavation with crushed rock in lifts utilizing a jumping jack compactor. Using a Troxler 3430 nuclear density gauge, I tested the density of the footing granular pads and compared the results against a field assumed proctor value of 125.0pcf(based on pin resistance and known dry density range of this material,we believe that this value accurately represents this material to date). Areas tested met or exceeded our compaction recommendations of 95%compaction of maximum dry density value. Lots 173-175 While onsite, I observed NEI crew in the process of placing and compacting backfill within excavation for lots 173- 175. I was informed that earthwork crew was using 4" minus recycled concrete material for backfill. Compaction efforts were completed utilizing a large single drum vibratory pad foot roller in approx. 6" lifts. I observed the pin resistance (number of blows on a%"diameter pin with a 6-lb hammer to drive pin approx. 12" into material)to indicated densely compacted backfill. I observed no deflection or rutting under the compactor during compaction efforts. I observed earthwork crew placed approx. 5' of fill today. Used on our observations, pin resistance, probing, and testing, areas of wall backfill, excavation backfill for lots 173-175, and lot 67, in areas observed today and noted on attached site plan, have been or are being prepared in general accordance with our geotechnical recommendations. 9450 SW Commerce Circle,Suite 300 I Wilsonville,OR 97070 1503.968.8787 I www.geodesigninc.com it ODESIGNY.
