All youth pastors were contacted which resulted in some applications. Sheila, Martha and Pam will help with interviews before May 9. Rich may be interested in assisting in interviews. The informal deadline is April 25. The initial group of youth will help set up the youth council, so questions could focus on how the applicants could help the formation process. Youth Forum Membership— Liz earlier distributed a list of participants in the Youth Forum. A letter will be sent to those who have not attended regularly to determine whether the person wishes to continue on the Forum. Liz is also looking for participants from other groups and organizations. Skate Park Update— Rich Carlson reported that last night the City Council gave direction that the City Hall parking lot, extending into the upper Niche lot, is available. It will accommodate a 15,000 sq. ft. skate park, and probably more. It is on a bus line. The site availability is at least one and a half years away. Now the challenge is to get people back involved to work on the skate park. Fund raising for the 15,000 sq. ft. park is $350,000 at least. The Youth Council could be helpful in working with the skaters to keep the prospect going. Other Issues—The effort to generate additional funding for the schools continues— Legislation is needed to allow a vote this year. Park and Recreation Board participation could be available for a representative. Dan Lumly supplied the Forum with a brochure for the July 19, Day of Fun, day of fundraising. It may be a fund raising opportunity for the skate park group. The next meeting will be May, 21, following interviews of Youth Council applications. The meeting concluded at 8:10 a.m. iAadm%youth\2003\forum minutes 0403 doc
