06/01/2002 - Packet Monthly Report June 2002 for Skateboard Park Task Force (Name of board, committee, task force, group, etc.) 1. Meetings were held on(list dates during month) June 12, 2002- Rich Carlson conducted a meeting between the Task Force Chair, Dan Plaza, and School District representatives Steve Lowder, Mark Chism and Randy Harvey. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss the possibility of locating the skateboard facility on school district property, specifically at the Fowler School land on Tigard Street. The School Board indicated a favorable inclination to the idea. Dan Plaza discussed this with City Manager Bill Monahan. And, Bill Monahan discussed this with the Mayor and City Council on June 18. June 13, 2002— The 1 st Design meeting, held on June 13,with the consultants was a success although attendance was low. What is important to note is that those in attendance provided almost every feature one would find in a skateboard facility. Several facility designs were put together by skating enthusiasts and submitted for consideration. The consultants will now prepare a couple of design concepts and present them at the next Design meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 30 at the Water District Building at 8777 SW Burnham from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM. June 15, 2002—The Task Force announced the winners of the Logo Contest at the Balloon Festival and presented prizes. June 18, 2002—The City Council heard a presentation on the School District Fowler School property on Tigard Street as a possible site for the skateboard facility. The Council gave direction to staff to work with the school district on this possibility. A community meeting will be conducted after more information on the property, ESD building, and neighborhood etc. is ascertained. The Council, generally, was intrigued by the idea of a Community Policing station at the site. They felt it would be a good feature that would sell well with the community as they consider accepting a skateboard facility in their neighborhood. The school district has been contacted and they have been asked to provide, if possible, any maps of the property(topo's etc.), building information, number of children living in the extended and nearby areas of the property, etc. 2. Current activities (summarize): Currently there are two major activities in process. One is the design process (discussed above) and the second is the site selection process (discussed above). 3. Status of long-term projects: The major long-term projects continue to be the selection of a site location for the skateboard facility and the subsequent fundraising campaign. The Site Selection committee continues to study City maps to identify more potential sites in addition to the Fowler School site. 4. Number of volunteer hours contributed this month(noted number of volunteers and total hours).N/A 5. Attachments (include notifications, sign-in sheets, minutes, reports, press releases, proposals, etc.) - List: - sign in sheet for June 13 meeting - door flyer for June 13 meeting - Tigard Times June 6 and June 20 6. Any items to be scheduled for on the Council tentative agenda(list item and date): The conceptual design will be presented to City Council on November 26, 2002. 7. Status of members—are there any members scheduled to have their terms expire in the next four months? Are any members indicating that they plan to retire, move or resign soon? Please give details.
