property.
2. Current activities (summarize):
- Nancy Lof created a letterhead which will have the
skate park logo and the City logo on it. Mr. Carlson has agreed to have his name,
address, telephone number and e-mail address on the letterhead
- Skate park renderings and narratives were displayed at three school parents night
events (Tuality, Fowler, and Tigard High School).
3. Status of long-term projects:
The major long-term projects continue to be the selection of a site location for the skate
park facility and the subsequent fundraising campaign.
a) SITE SELECTION
A meeting has been set for November 20 at Fowler Middle School. I will be working
closely with Susan Stark Haydon from the School District on the November meeting.
b) FUNDRAISING
Fundraising will be a huge challenge for the Task Force. The amount of money needed to be
raised to pay for a skate park facility ranges from approximately$390K(including contingency)
and upwards. The current cost to build a skate park facility is approximately$25 per square foot.
The $25 per square foot cost does not include landscaping, parking, utilities, etc. Total costs for a
15K-sq. ft facility will, more than likely, exceed $500K.
c) DESIGN
The current conceptual design being considered is 15,000 square feet with a phase two project
calling for 5,000 additional square feet. A phase three project calls for an additional 5,000 square
feet. The facility, with phase two would cost $515K and with phase three would cost
$621K, not including auxiliary costs (landscaping, parking, utilities, etc).
For the record, I asked Engineering to provide me with a cost to build a 15K sq. ft. concrete slab
which could house above ground skate park features. The cost would be approximately$55K.
Skate park features for a 15K sq. ft. above ground facility would cost approximately, $100K to
$150K installed.
