12568 SW Main-Tigard, Or.97223 TIGARD LIBRARY BOARD MINUTES March 12, 1984
Call to Order 7:15 PM at Tigard Public Library.
Roll Call Walt Munhall, chairman, Susan Mueller, Dorene Thomas,
Madalyn Utz, Jane Miller, Peggy Ober, Dick Bendixsen.
Minutes Minutes of the February meeting were approved.
Monthly Report Librarian reviewed the monthly report. The main points of
discussion concerned the City's 1984-85 proposed budget, a
new tax base and the status of the WCCLS budget. Librarian
pointed out the impact on library service without a tax base,
noting that staff would be reduced from 6 to 4 and that the
library book money would also be drastically reduced. The
WCCLS budget is being included in the county tax base at
$2.2 million for 3 years.
Space Needs Chairman Munhall announced that the Committee for Library and
Police will meet at his home on March 13, 1984, at 7:30 PM, to
finalize plans for the March 27 bond election for a new city
facility. He reported having spoken to the Rotarians and re-
ceiving positive feed-back from the members. He will also
speak to Kiwanis and Chamber of Commerce. The brochures will
be ready March 16. The lawn signs were repainted and placed
by off-duty police officers. Jane Miller reviewed the precinct
assignments and Board members suggested other workers. Chair-
man Munhall read the draft of a letter to the Tigard Times
which he had prepared for the Board's signatures. Librarian
read a letter that was sent out to the Times on March 5.
OLA Trustees Chairman Munhall read an announcement for an all-day meeting
Meeting for Trustees and Friends of the Library at the annual OLA
meeting being held at Rippling River Resort on April 13. He
reviewed the agenda and urged members to attend if possible.
Review of Chairman Munhall postponed review of selection policy to
Selection Policy April meeting.
TAC Participation Chairman Munhall reviewed his participation in the newly
formed Tigard Advisory Committee, which consists of all
Board and Commission chairmen in the City. He pointed out
that the committee would work on city issues and projects
together. Dick Bendixsen will attend the next meeting.

Walt will bake the bread,
Irene, the cheese will bring,
We'll have some coffee
Drink some tea
To celebrate and sing.
To sing of battles past
And hurdles yet to clear,
But joy will reign
And so we'll plan
A library new next year.
