Excused: Dick Bendixsen, Jane Miller, Dorene Thomas. Reports Minutes of previous meeting were approved as written. Monthly Report was given by the Librarian. Copies will be typed and sent to members. Friends of the Library - Susan Mueller reported that 135 gifts had been received in response to the mass mailing for a total of $2350. It was reported that the party for Neva Root was planned for July 15 and all arrangements were in place. The Friends will have a booth at "Cruisin' Tigard" on July 27, to enlist new members and solicit donations for library furnishings. A diagram of the floor plan and pictures of the furniture will be displayed. There was some discussion regarding further fundraising in the fall. Boardsmanship Workshop - Sue Carver reported on the Boards- manship Workshop conducted by City for Board and Committee Chairmen and members. Carver described various activities and presentations which she thought were helpful. Fred Meyer Trust Librarian had no report. ALTA Susan Mueller moved that the Board join the American Library Trustees Association (ALTA) as an affiliate member. The motion was seconded and passed. Fundraising Munhall reported that he and Librarian would attend Rotary meeting on July 11 to explain plans for using the Rotary gift of $10,000. There was discussion concerning the establish- ment of a foundation for the Library. Following discussion concerning details of the Friends' plans to raise funds and problems of acknowledgment, it was decided to invite Friends to September 9 meeting. Furnishings Librarian outlined plan to utilize funds realized from the Washington County Cooperative Library Service (WCCLS) levy to purchase furnishings inasmuch as the bid must be out in August/September. There was discussion regarding the ne- cessity to bid everything at once to realize discounts. The actual authority to spend the funds will be granted through a supplemental budget in November. Civic Center Update Susan Mueller reported that there had been some problems regarding the soils test, but that construction was pro- ceeding. Adjourned: 8:30 PM.
