FROM: Library Directory —For Your Information DATE: December 12, 1988 _--Sign and Return SUBJECT: Monthly Report, November, 1988 WCCLS: The new coordinator, for the Washington County Cooperative Library Services (WCCLS) has been selected. Peggy Forcier, presently on the staff at Oregon State Library, has been chosen as the coordinator for- WCCLS and will begin her dut=ies after January 1, 1989. Governmeznt Finance Associates, Portland, has been chosen to study current levy allocation formula arid they have submitted their first proposal for 80 hours of work at an estimated $5,000 to $8,000. The proposal will be reviewed by the WCCLS Professional Advisory Board and a decision will be made by the Washington County Board of Commissioners . The new Citizens Library Advisory Board (CLAB) will hold its first: meeting in December. Walt Munhall is the representative for- the Tigard Public Library and Vince Matarrese will be his alternate. Jim Rapp, Sherwood City Administrator, has approached WCCLS regarding the levy allocation designated for Sherwood in FY 1988-•89. The mat=ter will be considered by the WCCLS `W Professional Advisory Board at the December 8 meeting. A decision will be made by the Washington County Board of Commissioners. The number of Sherwood users at the Tigard Library has increased 79% since the Sherwood Library closed July 1 . Usage at Tualatin has increased 100,,. SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR'S TOUR: Ten members of the Tigard School District' s administrative staff visited the City on November 28. The group was divided into smaller groups rotating to each City department for an orientation and opportunity for questions. Reaction from visitors and City staff was enthusiastic. PERSONNEL: Julia Wotipka was hired as part-time reference librarian. Her training will be scheduled the first two weeks in December and she will assume duties on December, 17. Part-time aide Sandie Cox resigned because of health reasons. The hours have been adjusted among the remaining aides and no new hire is anticipat=ed at this time. VOLUNTEERS: Thirty one volunteers gave 365 hours for 16.6 hours daily average. Seven Youth Services volunteers worked 24. 75 hours . One CE2 student worked 13 hours . One community assignee worked 3 hours. Library Board gave 9 hours . r ' December 12^ 1988 Page 2YOUTH , SERVICES: During Book Week, November 13th through 19th, four special programs were presented for school—aged children. Three of the programs utilized Tigard High School students for part of the presentation. The Young Adult Round Table (YART) held a book sale on November 19. They organized, priced and ran the four hour sale earning $40.00 to be used to buy materials for the Young Adult section. The Sherwood Talented and Gifted reference class (third through fifth grade) who are participating in a nationwide geographic guessing game used our resources to complete their project. Gaarde School scheduled school tours for classes on November 18, from 0:80 until 12:00. Four classes came through for a general library tour, story reading and lessons in book care. Book lists and displays in November included parenting books on sexuality, young adult "gangs" bookliut, an informed giving display, JFK display and bookli*t.
