Reports Minutes for the January 10, 1991 meeting were approved as written.
Monthly report for January was distributed by Library Director.
There was discussion on the new four person workstation and the
Teen Impact project.
Friends of the Library report was given by Yvonne Burgess. The
Friends made $600 on the entertainment book sales. A small area
rug for the parents' area will be purchased in memory of Beulah
Shields, the deceased secretary of the group.
Cooperative Library Advisory Board (CLAB) report was given by
Yvonne Burgess, Tigard Representative. The capital needs study is
continuing. A survey of current county library square footage was
distributed. The Public Relations Committee is studying a new logo
and developing a slogan to be used on various items.
Library Policy Review Committee: The Library Director distributed proposed
revisions for Library Board responsibilities and use of the library
meeting room. Members will review and discuss at the March
meeting. The proposed revisions for patron record confidentiality
and request for consideration of library materials is awaiting
comment by the City Attorney.
Budget FY 1991-1992: Library Director distributed a summary of the proposed
library budget for FY 1991-1992 and a more detailed outline for
purchase of library materials. The Board asked the Library Director
to prepare a statement to the City Administrator expressing their
support of the budget as reasonable.
Oregon Library Association Conference: Carl Kostol will attend sessions at the
conference on Friday, April 12, in Ashland. Two library staff
members, a professional and a paraprofessional will attend
pre-conferences and sessions during the regular schedule.
Update: Library Director reported that the piano music on Sunday afternoon
is too intrusive and will be discontinued immediately. Inquiry will
be made determining if the piano can be used at the Senior Center.
The John Tigard House project is gaining support and momentum.
Plans are to refurbish the house for Education Service uses in time
for the City September birthday celebration and then look into
moving it to City property. The possibility of establishing a library
satellite at Washington Square may be feasible when the mall
embarks on an expansion/renovation project in two to three years.
Adjournment: 8:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Irene Ertell
Library Director
