Roll Call: Amo DeBernardis, Susan Grossen, Carl Kostol, Kathy Davis Absent: Jeri Cundiff, Marilyn Hartzell, Yvonne Burgess Reports: Minutes from November were amended. Planning Committee will consist of Amo DeBernardis, Yvonne Burgess and Marilyn Hartzell, with Susan Grossen available as an alternate. Monthly Report for November was summarized by Library Director. Y.A. Librarian recruitment was re-opened. A major purchase of videos was made to meet the holiday rush. Circulation has risen in response to removal of checkout limits. Indoor Park will have use of St. Anthony's multi-purpose room. C.L.A.B. County Commissioners accepted levy proposal. WCCLS reimbursement funds may be used at city discretion including capital projects. Friends of the Library: No report. Planning Committee Feedback: DeBernardis reported that the first Planning Committee meeting was used to outline the committee's purpose. Ideas were proposed for discerning the community's likes, wants, and needs. Hope to have meetings on Mondays at 8:30. Good feedback from committee members. Board members expressed interest in having City Council involved in this process as progress is made toward writing goals. _Community Outreach-Organizational Visits: Davis shared information on two visits made as a result of WCCLS telephone survey: Summerfield Club House and Tigard Lions. Both groups expressed similar views on the library's computer system: They despise it! As a result of this feedback, library staff has planned a "targeted open house" for senior citizens. Staff will be at the library after hours to conduct tours, demonstrate computer use and visit with the patrons. Board members were very supportive of this idea. Grossen volunteered her help at the open house and recommended that staff write follow-up letters to both organizations addressing topics of interest mentioned by the members at each meeting. Adiournment: 8:09 p.m. Respectfully submitted, "/"G, / ,Al' Kathy L. Davis Library Director IMPORTANT! Library Board Members: Attached you will find a copy of a notice headed "WCCLS LEVY MEETING." Please take time to read this. As you know, it is vital that the WCCLS Levy pass this in March for library service to continue as we know it. "People for Libraries" has been formed to actively inform and educate citizens about this levy. Because of the political conflict of interest, it is inappropriate for library employees to be involved in this effort. I NEED THE BOARDS HELP! It is very important that we have representation in this process. If you are available to attend this meeting, please let me know as soon as possible. I will be attending the C.L.A.B. meeting immediately preceding and would be happy to provide transportation to and from (I'll sit through your meeting if you'll sit through minel) if needed. We will not have another Board meeting until two days after the Levy Meeting so I trust I will hear from some or all of you on this issue by phone. Happiest of Holidays to you and your families! Kathy Davis 684-6537 (Library) 625-5947 (Home) WCCLS LEVY MEETING Tuesday, January 12, 1993 -- 8:15pm to 9:30pm (immediately following the CLAB meeting) At the Cedar Mill Community Library 12505 NW Cornell Road Oust east of Bale's Thriftway) PEOPLE FOR LIBRARIES, a county-wide political action committee, is having its first meeting to promote passage of the WCCLS levy in the March 23, 1993 election. It is important for every library supporter to be informed and involved if this campaign is to be successful. Please make sure that at least one representative from your library or community attends. Shirley Huffman and Wes Yuen have agreed to co-chair the 1993 campaign and Gail Schultz has agreed to continue as treasurer. Discussion at the meeting will focus on: 1) HOWwill People for Libraries publicize the levy (mailing brochures? canvasing neighborhoods? buying billboard space? telephoning?) 2) WHO will accomplish these activities and HOW will the activities be funded? 3) HOW will the funds be raised and WHO will do the "raising"? 4) WHO will serve as the contact person from each city or community to the levy campaign? P.S. If you (or other library supporters you know) haven't exceeded your 1992 Oregon Political Tax Credit ($50 per individual: $100 per couple), please consider a donation to the 1993 Library Levy before December 31. For more information about the meeting or about People for Libraries, contact Shirley Huffman, Wes Yuen (629-8685) or Gail Schultz (646-3131). This notice was mailed to all Cooperative Library Advisory Board Members &Alternates, Public Library Directors, Library Board Chairs, Friends Group Chairs, and past campaign supporters.
