My assignment was to give an initial health/risk assessment of 2 trees on the property. Below are my observations and recommendations. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call. Observations: Tree#1: Oregon White Oak This tree is located at the back NE corner of the building approximately 5 feet from the wall. It stands 70 to 80 feet tall with a trunk DBH of about 51 inches. The foliage throughout the crown and the incremental growth appear normal. About 3 feet above ground level the tree forks into 4 large stems. Where these stems are attached a vertical seam has formed and bark inclusions are present. 3 of these stems reach way out over a flat roof and 1 stem is less than 4 inches from the building. When strong winds occur this one stem bangs against the building. Tree#2: Oregon White Oak This tree is located on the east side of the building near the parking lot. The foliage throughout the crown is sparse and thin with only epicormic growth on the trunk. The upper crown is dead and the live crown ration is less than 5%. This tree has a slight lean to the southeast. Discussion/Recommendations: Both trees were saved years ago when the construction of the building occurred to enhance the aesthetic valve of the property. I suspect during the construction process roots were damaged, cut and removed. Both trees have limited space to grow and tree#1 is causing damage to the side of the building and roof. Tree#2 is almost dead and could fail. Because of the location of these trees and the target below, I would strongly advise the removal of these trees. Mitigation: For mitigation, I would strongly advise replanting with a more desirable species for this location. I would suggest Red Oak, Katsura, or Acer Griseum.
