City Council Recap for August The City Council adopted amendments for the Tigard Triangle"lean code."A"lean code" is intended to reduce barriers for development, especially on projects that support the area to become an active, urban, multimodal district. The council also adopted a transient lodging tax that allows the city to collect taxes on paid overnight stays at hotels, motels, bed and breakfasts and short-term rentals, at a rate of 2.5 percent. Task Force for the Homeless Continues its Work The Task Force for the Homeless continues to advance the conversation on how the City of Tigard can address the growing homeless population in Tigard. In December, the task force will present recommendations to the City Council. While the group works toward developing recommendations, the task force wants residents' input on several questions, including ideas to give to the council to address homelessness. Read more... Levy and Bond Advisory Task Force Briefed on Fiscal Choices The 15 Tigard residents who comprise the Levy and Bond Advisory Task Force have begun the task of understanding Tigard's finances. Rules of the Road: Targeted Enforcement at Crosswalks Tigard police conduct routine patrols of city streets, but specific locations are sometimes targeted due to identified traffic hazards or neighborhood concerns. A recent example of focused enforcement was an operation at the intersection of Greenburg Road and Center Street, where high traffic volumes can pose risks for pedestrians. Read more... International Walk and Bike to School Day on Oct. 4 Hundreds of Tigard students and their parents will join their peers around the world on the morning of Oct. 4, by walking, rolling or riding to their Tigard schools. Prizes will be handed out by volunteers to students who walked, biked or rolled to school. The Golden Sneaker will be awarded to the school with the most participants. Spanish-English Bilingual Story Times Begin at Library To better serve the community's Spanish-speaking residents, the Library will offer bilingual story times for children ages 0-6 on Mondays this fall, beginning on Sept. 11. Bring the family to the celebration on Sept. 16, 1-4 p.m., at the John Tigard House, featuring cider making, live music from Faded Blue and—of course—apple pie. Read more... Tigard Breakfast Rotary SK Supports Police K-9 Program The Tigard Breakfast Rotary Club is continuing its tradition to raise funds that benefit the Tigard Police Department K-9 program. On Oct. 7, the club's Tigard K-9 5K/Doggie Dash run/walk event will take place in Cook Park. Proceeds will support the K-9 program. Read more...
