06/14/1989 - Minutes MINUTES OF CITY-WIDE COMPUPER USERS COME=
JUNE 14, 1989
Attending: Sherrie Burbank, Randy Clarno, Carol Hausauer, Wayne Lowry, Jill
Monley, Bruce Olson, Don Palmer, Nadine Robinson, and John Roy.
Training Update
The network and Dbase III training Bruce has put on has been very well
received. He is planning on having another Dbase III training in July.
Training on Wordperfect is scheduled for July. Sign up sheets will be sent
around in the near future.
Community Development's training on Tidemark has been going quite well. They
finished their last training session on June 14.
Don will be contacting PCC to find out about renting their mobile computer
system for training.
Software Update
The network version of the Record's section Clerk's Indexing software has been
installed. The indexing software will allow users to search ordinances,
resolutions, and agreements for relevant information. The software is menu
driven and uses keywords for searches, so it is very easy to learn and to use.
The Request for Proposals for Community Service's software will close on June
30.
Round Robin
Bruce talked about the need to protect our system and files by:
o changing passwords on a regular basis,
o logging off the system when the user is not using the terminal,
o notifying Computer Services of an employee's termination date/time, and
o doing frequent back-ups (Bruce is hoping to do a daily back-up starting
next week.)
It was recommended that supervisors talk with their sections to emphasize the
need to follow security measures. Bruce will be addressing some of the reasons
for security precautions in a future newsletter.
As you may have noticed in the last newsletter, we now have some graphic
capabilities. If you would like to take advantage of the different fonts and
pictures available, you can note what you would like in the margins of your
document and WP will do the rest.
An electronic mail "cheat sheet" is available, from Bruce, for those who are
interested.
