Zone Temperature Sensor
The zone sensor monitors the temperature of the specific building space where it is installed.
The sensor senses zone temperature. A controller in the HVAC system uses the data to control the zone to a selected
temperature.
Enclosure
The enclosure consists of three components: back plate, cover, and security screw. The back plate contains a circuit
board and an optional COMM module, if installed. It also provides a wire cutout and mounting hole openings. The cover
protects the circuit board and the optional COMM module. It provides openings for ventilation, switches, and indicators.
A security screw is located at the bottom of the enclosure and anchors the cover to the back plate to help prevent
tampering.
Circuit board
The circuit board snaps securely to the enclosure back plate. Depending on the model, it provides pushbutton switches,
potentiometers controlled from the outside of the zone temperature sensor enclosure. Switches and a thumbwheel
select features and functions of the sensor. Some zone sensor models have no switches.
Optional COMM module
The optional COMM module snaps securely to the enclosure back plate. It must be ordered separately and installed by
the customer. If a COMM module is requested for a zone temperature sensor, the module ships enclosed in a separate
package and is later installed as part of the sensor installation process.
The COMM module consists of a small circuit board populated with an RJ22 jack and a termination block. The
termination block provides connections between the RJ22 jack and the unit control module. The jack is the connection
point for the PC Service Tool cable.
Specifications
Sensor operating temperature
32 to 122°F (0 to 50°C)
Storage temperature
-40 to 185°F (-40 to 85°C)
Storage and operating humidity range
5%to 95%, non-condensing
Accuracy
0.5°F over a range of 55 to 85°F (12.8 to 29.4°C)
Housing
Polycarbonate/ABS blend, UV protected, UL 94-5VA flammability rating, suitable for application in a plenum
Mounting
3.24 in. (8.26 cm)for 2 mounting screws (supplied)
Sensor Location
Prior to installing a zone temperature sensor, the location must be determined. Together, these descriptions will enable
you to choose the most effective sensor placement to ensure accurate readings and increase the longevity of the
sensor.
When selecting a location for the zone temperature sensor, rule out those with undesirable characteristics such as:
Locations in the direct airstream of air diffusers
Locations where exterior or other walls show a temperature difference between the two sides
Locations close to sources of heat such as direct sunlight(on or near the sensor), appliances, equipment, concealed
pipes, and chimneys
Locations that are drafty
Locations that are dead spots: behind doors, behind projection screens, and in corners
Locations with walls that are subject to high vibration
Locations with high humidity

Others
Nespresso Tigard TI June 05,2017
Locations that are high traffic areas: to reduce the chance of accidental damage or tampering
Locations to look for
Height requirements for mounting the zone sensors are:
Maximum height of 54 in. off the floor(measured from the bottom of the enclosure)for most installations
Maximum height of 48 in. off the floor(measured from the bottom of the enclosure)when only a parallel approach, for
example by a person in a wheelchair, is possible.
Note: Consult section 4.27.3 of the 2002 Americans with Disability Act(ADA)guideline and local building codes for
further details concerning wheelchair requirements.
Zone Temperature Sensor
The wired display sensor monitors the temperature of the specific building space where it is installed. The sensor
displays zone temperature or setpoint and has other configurable options such as occupancy(timed override),fan, and
system control. A controller in the HVAC system uses the sensor input to maintain the zone at a selected temperature.
Sensor Enclosure
The sensor enclosure consists of back plate, cover, security screw, and mounting hardware. It provides openings for
ventilation. A security screw is located at the bottom of the enclosure and anchors the cover to the back plate to help
prevent tampering.
Occupancy(timed override)
This optional function allows temporary control of the heating and cooling for the zone monitored by the temperature
sensor which has reverted to unoccupied mode. Not all systems support this capability.
Setpoint(single, dual or none)
The setpoint and room temperature can be set to display in Fahrenheit or Celsius. The temperature resolution can be
selected for tenths, halves,or whole numbers. The sensor can be set to display room temperature or setpoint depending
on building owner preference. The sensor can be configured for dual setpoint, in which case the cooling and heating
setpoints are adjusted independently. The sensor can also be configured for no setpoint control, where only fan control
is required. The sensor ships configured for single or dual setpoint in Fahrenheit, with whole degree resolution. The
room temperature is displayed by default for all options.
Fan Control
The sensor can be configured for up to five fan settings; off, auto, low, medium or high. The available fan options are
limited by the setpoint and system options chosen.
System Control
The sensor can be configured for up to five system settings; off, auto, cool, heat, or emergency heat. The system
choices are limited by the setpoint option chosen.
