SOLID WASTE ADVISORY COMMITTEE MINUTES
MAY 24, 1993
1. The meeting was called to order at 7:07 PM.
2. ROLL CALL: Present: Mark Irwin, Vice Chair

3. CALL TO AUDIENCE FOR NON-AGENDA ITEMS - No one appeared to speak.
4. APPROVE MINUTES: March 15 and April 26, 1993 - Motion by Committee Member
McReynolds, seconded by Committee Member Jacobs to approve as written.
Approved by unanimous vote of Committee present.
5. METRO YEAR 4 GOAL REVIEW - Reviewed the Year 4 goals. Staff Liaison Edin
advised the Committee that Council would review and adopt before October
1st. Motion by Committee Member McReynolds, seconded by Committee Member
Jacobs to recommend approval to the City Council. Approved by unanimous
vote of Committee present.
Staff Liaison Edin stated that DEQ is currently showing yard debris
required at curbside in Washington County for 7/1/95. City will be
reviewing options of starting about 1/1/95. SWAC encouraged staff to be
open about the true cost of a yard debris program and use the CIT process
to share information.
6. JUNE 19TH COLLECTION DAY UPDATE AND WORK SCHEDULE - Staff Liaison Edin
noted that no yard debris collection day was able to be scheduled for
Spring. She also noted that a Bulky Waste Collection Day was scheduled
for 6/19/93 at Fowler Junior High School. Committee Members Dispenza and
Irwin volunteered to help with the collection day.
7. PUBLIC INFORMATION/EDUCATION PLAN FOR CITIZEN INVOLVEMENT TEAMS (CITs)
Committee consensus was to share as much information as possible with the
CITs. They encouraged the City to have the haulers visible and bring
"show and tell" demonstrations to the groups. The Committee also
encouraged staff to explain to citizens why the mandates are in place and
have citizen education as the focus on any presentations.
8. OTHER BUSINESS
A. Consensus of Committee was to have this be their last meeting.
B. COMMITTEE RECOGNITION - Staff Liaison Edin served cake and
refreshments in recognition of the Committee's last meeting. She
also presented each Committee Member with a gift of appreciation for
their hours of work and dedication to making the transition in solid
waste and recycling smoother.
9. ADJOURNMENT - 7:40 PM - Motion by Committee Member Dispenza, seconded by
Committee Member McReynolds to adjourn. Approved by unanimous vote of
Committee present.
