The City of Tigard received a Silver Medal Safety Award at the 75th Annual
League of Oregon Cities Conference held in Portland November 10-12, 2000.
The purpose of the annual safety awards program is to encourage Oregon cities
participation in loss prevention programs by giving special recognition to cities
• demonstrating outstanding achievement in this area. Loss prevention programs
protect property and personnel. The awards are sponsored by the League of
Oregon Cities and City/County Insurance Services Program. The annual contest
runs from July 1 — June 30 each year.
All Oregon cities that employ regular full-time employees are eligible to
participate. Tigard, with 260 employees, competes in the category of cities with
an average number of employees of 150 and above. Other cities competing in
the same category this year were Albany, Bend, and Springfield.
The award winners are determined by the lowest injury frequency rates, based
on a sliding scale. The injury frequency rate is computed by the number of lost-
time injuries per 200,000 person hours worked. Tigard's injury frequency rate
was 2.01 for fiscal year 1999-2000.
The City also received the silver award last year with an injury frequency rate of
2.77.
