Margaret M. Barnes has been named director of the Tigard Public Libra Cit
� � Library, Y
Manager Bill Monahan announced today. Barnes, who is currently director of the
Dallas Oregon Public Library, will begin at Tigard on June 1.
"Margaret brings to the job an extensive background in library
administration, a strong vision for the future of libraries and a dedication to
• customer service," Monahan said. "We anticipate that her leadership and
imagination will guide the Library through the eventful years ahead."
Barnes has directed the Dallas Public Library for five years. Before that,
she was the assistant director of the Bensenville Public Library in Bensenville,
Illinois for seven years. She earned her masters degree in Library Science from
Rosary College in River Forest, Illinois and her bachelor's degree in government
from St. Mary's College in Moraga, California.
Barnes commented "I believe the library is the "heart of the community."
I'm looking forward to being part of the community of Tigard and to help continue
to lead the library in the 21St century."
The new director was one of 39 applicants from all over the country and
will succeed Melinda Sisson, who resigned in December to take a job in
California.
