Mayor Establishes Skate Park Task Force
Mayor Jim Griffith is pleased to announce the formation of a Skate Park Task Force. Rich
Carlson, a local attorney and former Tigard-Tualatin School Board member, will serve as
chairman of the task force. Carlson is a member of the Mayor's Youth Forum.
The Mayor's Youth Forum has been meeting monthly since February to explore ways to expand
and enhance existing opportunities and create new programs and activities for youth in the
Tigard area. The primary focus has been on after-school, week day activities for middle school
aged youth, but options for high school and younger youth are also being explored. The Youth
Forum members represent schools, faith community, youth activity service providers, service
clubs, and other citizens interested in youth issues. Six student representatives joined the group
in October.
Mayor Griffith and Mr. Carlson will be holding an organizational meeting on Thursday,
November 15, 2001, at 7:00 p.m. in the City of Tigard Town Hall. The purpose of the
organizational meeting is to formally establish the Skate Park Task Force and recruit interested
individual adults as well as youth. The task force will be charged with exploring options for the
development of a skate park, including possible locations, funding sources, and operation. The
task force will be open to anyone interested in youth issues or with a background in
construction, recreation, or youth service.
