MEMORANDUM
CITY OF TIGARD
TO: Transportation Advisory Committee Julv 30 , 1991
FROM: Randv Woolev, City Enginee
SUBJECT: August meeting /'
1 . The regular August meeting is canceled due to lack of business
to come before the Committee this month.
2. On July 22nd the Planning Commission recommended approval of
the amendment to the Comprehensive Plan Transportation Map in the
vicinity of 109th and Naeve , as proposed by NPO #6 . The Council
will hold a hearing on the proposal on August 13th.
3 . The Street Bond projects now under construction (Bonita ,
McDonald, Greenburg, & Main Street Bridge) are progressing on
schedule . We expect to have Bonita and McDonald reopened to
traffic by the time school starts in September. Traffic signals
along Durham Road and Upper Boones Ferry Road have been re-timed
this summer to help alleviate the traffic problems caused by the
Bonita and McDonald road closures .
Construction has begun on the new traffic signal at Bonita and
72nd. Construction will begin soon on the intersection
improvements at 69th and Pacific Highway.
On the Gaarde project , settlements have been reached on purchase of
the three duplexes which must be removed; most of the tenants have
already relocated. There has been some interest in purchasing and
moving the buildings; we are currently advertising for bids to see
if we can sell the buildings . Right-of-way negotiations have begun
with the owners of the Elmer ' s Restaurant property. We now have a
signed agreement with the State for the necessary revisions to the
existing 99W/McDonald intersection to accommodate the proposed
Gaarde Street realignment . We still hope to advertise for bids on
the street construction this fall .
4 . The Oregon Department of Transportation has now formally
selected "Modified Alternative A" as the preferred option for the
I-5/217 Interchange improvements and asked the cities for approval .
The City Council will consider endorsement of the State ' s decision
at the August 13th Council meeting. Alternative A was the
alternative preferred by a majority of the people who testified at
the State ' s public hearing last winter . Alternative A will provide
new ramp connections between 217 and I-5 at a point north of the
Farmers Insurance building. The interchange of 217 and 72nd Avenue
will also be reconstructed.
