On 02-10-17, at your request, I visited the property site at 16101 SW 72nd. My assignment was to give
an initial visual health/risk assessment of a large tree on the property above. Below are my observations and
recommendations for this tree. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call.
Observations:
The tree in question is a Douglas fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii, and is located near the SW corner of the
building and the entrance off Upper Boones Ferry Rd. The tree stands 75-85 feet tall with a trunk DBH of 27
inches. The incremental growth is poor and the foliage density is sparse with poor color. Throughout the crown
there is visible deadwood and twig dieback. The tree is close to street and high voltage powerlines and has been
pruned for clearance of these lines. On the south side of lower trunk,there is an excessive amount of pitch.
This tree is located near a street with constant traffic on the north side and a frequently used parking lot on the
south side. Also near the trunk of this tree is a utility box. I suspect this tree was protected when the site was
developed many years ago. This tree is in an advanced state of decline.
Discussion/Recommendations:
Trees can suffer damage from a wide variety of causes, including but not limited to root rot diseases,
insects, adverse weather conditions,drainage, construction damage or cultural issues. I suspect this tree may
have damage from a few problems mentioned above. This tree has several targets underneath and because of
its current condition, size and location, I would strongly advise to remove and replace with a more desirable
species.
